The Machinist Co-Op is a temporary position to develop the skills of a student enrolled in a high school technical trade program, or a skilled trade school, to evaluate their potential for future opportunity at American Hydro. Essential Functions Performed by the Position  Accountabilities:Follows safety rules and requirementsAccountable to follow instructions of Machine Shop personnelDemonstrate correct operation of machinery and hand toolsTechnical Skills - Knowledge of machining processes and procedures. General understanding of inspection equipment, tooling, metal processing, and shop safetyLanguage Skills - Ability to read, and interpret blue prints including dimensional and finish symbols. Ability to effectively present inquiries and respond to questions from engineers, machinists, and othersMathematical - Ability to understand and calculate dimensional and quantity figures in both fractions and decimals. Along with ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometryReasoning - Ability to interpret work instructions and procedures. Identify problems, collect information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusionsComputer – Competent in clocking in and off work routingPhysical – must occasionally list and/or move up to 40 poundsWork Environment – comfortable working in loud environment. Required personal protective equipment worn including safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, and ear protectionMain Responsibilities:Develop understanding of safety requirements to work in large machine shop environment.Obtain exposure and involvement with tasks required for the machinist position.Learn how to operate machines, use hand tools and inspection gages.Development Responsibilities:Increase knowledge of industry and machining, contribute to making better the co-op process for future students.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Problem Solving, Oral Communication, Written Communication, Teamwork, Quality Management, InnovationStrong math background, preferable in machine math/shop mathUnderstanding of Geometric Dimensioning and TolerancingAbility to read and interpret blueprintsExperience using a microscopeAbility to read measurement equipment such as micrometer, caliper, pressure micrometer
