Current, permanent Army employees who would like to be considered for this time-limited assignment should instead apply to Announcement #MCGM240910171024 Responsibilities Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, and starts work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led). Checks work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisors instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines. Insures that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Independently lays out reference points, lines to be followed in the machining process, planning and setting up the work in the machine, programming the cutter path, selecting/shaping metal cutting tools, inserts and operating various machine tools. Performs continuous path/multi-axis machining operations through Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) programming using procedures such as multiple setups, debugging first run programs, and making changes to machine tool programs. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Machinist Leader without more than normal supervision which includes: (1) Providing guidance to others in performing machining work within a manufacturing/industrial environment; (2) Use of a variety of measuring instruments such as: vernier calipers, inside, outside and depth micrometers, surface gages, screw pitch gages, or squares and dial indicators; (3) Performing changes to machining processes that require frequent computing and establishing missing tolerances, dimensions, and types of fits and finishes; and (4) Manufacturing complex, non-routine parts and/or complete items of equipment from raw stock of different kinds of metals and metal alloys and other materials. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability To Use Shop Drawings Knowledge of Metals Measurement and Layout Operation of Machine Tools Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Physical Effort: Job requires sitting about 25% of the time; 75% spent standing and walking. Other physical exertion is required in stooping, bending, and lifting. Very close visual attention is required in reading measurement instruments and color vision must be normal to verify materials and reports. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 10 pounds, and occasionally handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Works in a well-lighted, heated, and ventilated shop with concrete floors. Exposed to dust from grinding, oil from machines, dirt, heat, noise, and fumes. Subject to the hazards of burns from hot metal chips, dust in the lungs, cuts, bruises, and injuries to the hands from the use of machine and hand tools, skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds, and subject to strains from infrequent moving, lifting, and handling of heavy items. Wears safety glasses, shoes, and other safety apparel and equipment as required. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
