Job Description

Rasmussen Rents is seeking two (2) Rental Equipment Mechanic & Delivery Drivers for our Utica, NY rental store to support our continued growth. This person will be responsible for the diagnosing, service and repair, maintenance, and preparation of rental equipment ranging from skid steers to large excavators, and other related/smaller equipment and attachments. Most of the maintenance/servicing work will be done in a shop environment but at times, may be outside and/or on-site. This position will also be responsible for, on average, 10-20 hours a week of driving for customer deliveries and pick-ups.

Responsibilities:

The position is responsible for high quality repair service on rental equipment and engines, in a positive, safe, and timely manner, ensuring maximum value for work performed. Flexibility and in-depth product knowledge are necessary for this position. The candidate should be able to read and interpret technical instruction, service and safety manuals, and company policies and procedures. Customer service experience would be a plus in the instance additional assistance is needed at the front desk working with customers. This position will be working largely independently, while reporting to the Rental Store Manager. The essential duties of this position are as follows:

- Prepare and inspect incoming and outgoing rental equipment by cleaning the unit, refueling, ensuring equipment is properly stocked and working, in safe operating condition before releasing back into rental circulation.

- Evaluate incoming rentals and documenting materials used, fuel costs, and/or possible damages.

- Identify problems and cause of failure through logical troubleshooting steps and knowledge of mechanical systems (transmission, engines, hydraulics, etc).

- Disassemble, assemble, and install components and parts in order to repair equipment (small & heavy) including attachments to be operational and safety compliant.

- Determine reusability/repairability of parts.

- Inspect, clean, lubricate, recondition/repair and maintain all equipment, attachments, etc. at store location by conducting routine services and preventative maintenance.

- Decal new equipment.

- Safely load, unload, and transport rental inventory to and from customer locations in a timely, safe, and courteous manner.

- Assist with the pick-up and delivery of parts.

- Keep available equipment in good working order and presentable condition.

- Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work area along with the building and equipment yard.

- Maintain shop tools and fixtures, and report misuse.

- Complete paperwork/documentation/equipment logs of work performed in a complete and timely manner, on a daily basis.

- Demonstrate high-level of credibility and integrity with customers, management, and co-workers.

- Work with a positive attitude.

- Accept responsibility for mistakes or problems. Maintain "ownership" of assigned tasks.

- Adherence to PPE guidelines and requirements. This position will be frequently operating equipment with potential hazard. Appropriate safety equipment and practices are required.

- Consistently arrive on time when scheduled, fully ready to work. Must be dependable.

- All other duties assigned.

Experience/Knowledge Required:

- Previous experience as a mechanic for, and extensive knowledge of, construction equipment, both small and heavy.

- Knowledge of minimum preventative maintenance guidelines for specific machine types.

- Experience changing oil, oil filters, fuel filters, and air filters.

- Ability to locate lubrication points and apply proper level of lubrication.

- Ability to inspect entire machine for safety concerns and note any deficiencies.

- Ability to deliver and pick-up small equipment, to and from customers or other store locations while utilizing up to a 24' trailer.

- Knowledge of proper load securement technique.

- Experience specifically working on CAT heavy equipment preferred.

- Time spent working in an equipment rental store setting preferred.

- OSHA certification preferred.

General Requirements:

- Minimum 21 years of age.

- Authorized to work in the United States and able to provide proof. (We are unable to provide sponsorship of any kind at this time.)

- High school diploma or GED required. Trade school certificate preferred.

- Valid NYS Driver's License and safe driving record required - must be eligible to drive Company Vehicles safely.

- Ability to pass DOT non-CDL FMCSA requirements/obtain DOT medical card.

- Basic understanding and ability to use a computer and related programs.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

- Willing to work outdoors, and occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

- Willing to travel to other rental stores in the region as needed.

- Ability to safely mount and dismount heavy equipment.

- Ability to lift up to 50-80 pounds.

- Physical demands of this position require standing, walking, twisting, bending, crouching, squatting, kneeling, reaching, climbing, crawling.
