The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University is seeking an individual to teach COM 698.2 Media Law on Thursdays 12:30pm-3:15pm in the Spring 2025 semester (3 credits).Course Description: This course examines the limits to freedom of expression for the mass media in the United States, with a particular emphasis on the rights of journalists. Topics covered include the rights of journalists as laid out in the Constitution, in judicial decisions, in the state and federal statues, and in administrative regulations; libel; shield laws; freedom of information; right to access to public and private venues; obscenity, indecency and hate speech; and First vs. Sixth Amendment issues.
