The DCS programmer uses computer technology and fundamental engineering skills to achieve key business objectives within manufacturing operations. The programmer works as a partner inside the process control team and with other site teams: operations to troubleshoot and support production; project engineers to define control specification and design; and maintenance and reliability to troubleshoot and address root causes. This DCS Engineer may work across all operating units on the site DCS systems with the primary focus on programming the continuous database. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, excellent communication and the ability to read and decipher existing code. Essential Functions (Responsibilities)
- Collaborate with project owners /managers to successfully support DCS control elements of site projects: control scope, specification, design, code development, testing, and startup
- Projects size may vary from small single points to large multiple point additions
- Work closely with a control specialist as needed to provide first-line support to operations teams
- Specific tasks may involve:
- Attending project meetings
- Researching code changes
- Reverse engineer how code works
- EPN point creation / deletion / edits
- Continuous database updates
- SABL code creation/changes
- PVN graphic edits
- TotalVision graphic edits
- Support IO checkouts
- Commission code
- Update D3 notes
- Write proposals, estimate hours
- Support emergency calls if SABIC team is not available
- Demonstrated personal commitment in safety, environmental, health, and security practices
- Minimum of seven years manufacturing experience in a chemical / refining industry or in automated manufacturing
- Demonstrated commitment to manufacturing safety and performance, and to meeting real-time manufacturing challenges
- Demonstrated aptitude, capability, experience, and interest in computers, programming, and automation
- Strong record of experience writing programs with clearly identifiable impacts
- Curious, quick learner, driven to fill gaps in working knowledge
- Demonstrated creativity in solving problems, especially as this creativity has delivered simple, effective, long-lived solutions
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet objectives in a resource-constrained environment
- Demonstrated engagement and influencing skills

- You must be 18 years or older
- You must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process
- Direct experience with industry DCS systems
- Understanding of the fundamentals of process dynamics and control
- Knowledge of or experience with instrumentation, I / O systems, and electrical systems
- Experience implementing and maintaining advanced process control
