9298BRPosition Title:Senior Mechanical Engineering TechnicianOrganization:KGCOE Mechanical EngineeringJob Responsibilities:The Senior Mechanical Engineering Technician teaches multiple machine tool labs, assist students and faculty in the design and construction of a variety of projects, manufactures specimens for lab experiments, install, repair and maintain lab equipment both in the machine shop and in 22 curricular and research labs in the Mechanical Engineering department, assist multidisciplinary design teams in the design and construction of required projects, and assist research faculty and graduate students in the development and precision machining of research apparatus. The individual will also have ongoing responsibilities for implementing the steps needed in order for our machine shop and facilities to adhere to all mandated safety requirements.Responsibilities:

Instruct multiple machine shop labs.

Instruct engineering students in the both safety and operation of manual and CNC programmable machining/fabrication equipment.

Teach machine design and engineering principles for a student design and build project. Instruct 4 to 6 labs per semester

. Develop and create project curriculum for the lab.

Maintain and enter accurate grade progress for class

Precision machining and fabrication of mechanical components.

Machine and fabrication of mechanical components up to 0.0001” in tolerance for department, COE, and other RIT campus customers. Proficient in operation of both manual and CNC mills and lathes, a variety of cutting saws, grinders, drill press, and fabrication equipment Operation and proper use of woodworking machines.

Ability to use precision measurement tools and equipment.

Knowledgeable in blue print reading.

Experience with using CAM software

Mechanical advisement and consultation.

Knowledge in machine design and material selection. Excellent material processing and manufacturing skills Blue print creation using computer aided design CAD software

Maintenance and repair of machines and laboratory equipment .

Maintain and repair a variety of machine shop equipment.

Maintain and repair sensitive testing and laboratory equipment.

Basic electrical, plumbing, pneumatic, and hydraulic skills.

Safety and proper lock out/tag out procedures

Help support and run daily operations in a machine shop

Maintain and order tooling, fasteners, raw stock, and other materials used in a manufacturing environmentKeep accurate job log in records using computer

Knowledgeable with using standard Microsoft Office software

Support both department and college of engineering facility projects

Maintain classrooms, laboratories and hallwaysOffice moves

Perform office and laboratory renovations involving wall repair and painting, installation of shelving and wall fixtures, Carpentry skills

Ability to lift 50 lbs. and climb a ladder

Associate’s degree or equivalent experience

Experience in the use and operation of machine tools in an industrial setting.

Equivalent Experience: 2 - 10 yrs. working in a machine shop environment or industrial manufacturing plant

Certification, professional license, or credential: NYS tool and die certification, machine shop apprenticeship training, or associate degree in tooling and machining

Preferred Qualifications:4 year apprenticeship2 plus years experience in machine trades including:

CNC Background

CAD/CAM

Machine repair

Standard experience with conventional machine tools

Tool Making

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Excellent communication skills

Organized with the ability to manage multiple projects in a busy student centered environment
