General DescriptionThis is an administrative position assigned to the Policy and Oversight Division of the Police Accountability Board. The incumbent in this position is responsible for analyzing policing practices and public safety initiatives. General supervision is received from the Director of Policy. Related work is performed as required.This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title. A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three. CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE. Typical Work Activities

Draft narrative reports, policy proposals, administrative rules, and legislation for use by Board decision markers;

Obtains data, documents, and testimony from public officials, City employees, and experts to further oversight investigations into public safety policy in Rochester;

Author, edit, and compile narrative reports and program and policy documents analyzing policing practices and public safety initiatives;

Prepares factual written reports of information gathered during oversight investigations;

Keeps abreast of developments in public safety and policing research;

May use modeling techniques including but not limited to cost/benefit analysis; and

May coordinate efforts with members of community organizations, academic personnel, and staff from other government entities.
