ResponsibilitiesGeneral Purpose :The Pediatric Allergy/Immunology Ambulatory Tech 2 (“Tech”) will work under general direction from Nursing Leadership and will assist providers during exams. Perform a variety of clinical tasks in support of patient care in out-patient clinics including a variety of technical, procedural and information systems tasks involving patient care functions affecting the comfort, care and safety of patients. In addition, this position is expected to participate in operational process improvement activities, including the development of new procedures and documentation.The Ambulatory Tech works with a team of 6-7 staff to support approximately 15 physicians and mid-level providers in the Department of Pediatrics. Candidate must demonstrate capability and desire to work independently while being a strong team player. Achieving our strategic vision depends on all of us living out these values and embracing the diversity of our faculty, staff, students, trainees and patients).Responsibilites :Provider Support & Ambulatory Coordination: (60%)

Provides information, comfort, and care to the patient by explaining next steps and their status before and during exam.

Escorts patients from the waiting area to exam areas. Obtains vital signs. Performs diagnostic testing and specimen collection per provider order. Accurately labels, logs and processes specimens according to protocol and follows all Laboratory policies at all times.

Gives patient provider's pre-printed instructions for discharge.

Anticipates and ensures the correct number and type of supplies are always available in each exam room. Assures equipment/supplies are available for provider based on individual provider preference.

Responsible for efficient room utilization and ensures patient wait time is minimized.

Examines the clinical schedule(s) on a continuous basis to identify opportunities for optimizing the time and effort of providers.

Maintains adequacy of clinical equipment and medical supply levels needed for patient care and related to patient safety which may require reordering, stocking, and cleaning. Conducts inventory of supplies, rotates inventory, monitors expiration dates, requisitions needed supplies from internal and external vendors, reconciles orders with delivery, tracks utilization for cost trending purposes. Makes recommendations regarding opportunities to decrease cost in use of equipment and supplies. Interacts and problem solves with purchasing department when products are on back order.

Implements standard infection prevention measures such as proper hand hygiene and contact/isolation precautions according to established protocols. Monitors infection prevention practices for breaches and suggests/initiates corrections.

Administrative (35%)

Registers patient demographic and insurance information.

Call and schedule follow-ups.

Compiles and mails new patient packets.

Prints labels and prepares clinical documents and delivers to clinic. Ensures appropriate clinic paperwork is scanned into the chart after the visit.

Works with Supervisor, Clinical Administration to develop and work “bump” and reminder lists effectively, timely and accurately.

Provides clinical and clerical support to providers.

With RN oversight, precepts any new Ambulatory Technologists to the area providing detailed overview of requirements and assuring competence in all area of practices.

Attends office staff meetings and other relevant meetings, as requested.

Provides clerical assistance, including distributing mail, create routine & non-routine mail correspondence to families & outside offices, scanning, faxing and errands.

Other duties as assigned. (5%)Qualifications:

High School diploma and 1 year of relevant experience in a customer focused/service field required. Equivalent combination of education and experience required. Associate’s degree preferred.

Minimum of 6 months of progressively responsible professional work experience in the ambulatory clinic setting required

Must prioritize exceptional patient care with compassion and respect. Demonstrated customer service skills, specifically strong oral and written communication skills. Medical Terminology, procedures and computer experience (especially Microsoft Office and electronic medical records) preferred. Ability and willingness to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment, and demonstrate efficiency in prioritizing assignments while working successfully with a team (preferred).
