We're looking for an Accountant to play a key role in our financial operations by applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to prepare, analyze, and reconcile financial transactions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Analyze current accounting processes and workflows to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.

Serve as functional Accountant for assigned companies. Prepare journal entries and monthly financial statements for month-end and year end closing.

Maintain fixed asset ledgers including processing of additions, disposals and transfers for all companies.

Perform periodic reconciliations of balances per fixed asset module to the related general ledger accounts.

Assist with the processing of accounts payable for RTS Monroe on a weekly basis and Regional Operations on an as needed basis.

Reconcile capital accounts on a monthly basis (State Receivable, Capital Revenue accounts to Grants, Capital Rollforward, Construction in Progress)

Prepare preventative maintenance detail.

Initiate wires and stop checks.

Pay payroll taxes and fund payroll.

Stay up to date on industry trends and best practices to incorporate innovative solutions into accounting processes.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Complete schedule of federal awards for annual Single Audit.

Reconcile and submit quarterly Federal Financial Report to Federal Transit Administration.

Reconcile Federal & State Capital & Operating receivables.

Prepare Federal Transit Administration monthly draw.

Process and track ongoing claims for State funded capital projects and the Unified Planning Work Program.

Track retainage regularly for Capital projects.

Prepare quarterly Federal Financial Reports for all capital grants.

Prepare Administrative Capital grant project.

Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure processes are in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Serve as back-up to accounts receivable function and DSS program.

Prepare annual schedules for National Transit Database.

Serve as a backup for processing of daily fare media orders and handling customer issues.

Manage bus pass inventory.

Analyze, reconcile and compile transactions and financial data to prepare reports that support the Finance Department.

Maintain storage box database.

Review preparation of government census forms.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and public accounting experience preferred.

At least four (4) years of experience working in accounting or related field with a strong focus on process improvement.

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Ability to perform a variety of routine duties involving the use of procedures and the application of clearly prescribed standard practice where the employee could make minor decisions and use some judgment.

Ability to work from defined objectives and broad and varying policies, procedures, rules or precedents. Plans and arranges own work while the supervisor provides some functional guidance. Details of accomplishing the objective are left to the position. Unusual situations are referred to supervision.

Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Strong analytical skills; ability to compare, analyze, and reconcile data.

Strong computer skills, including intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite, Lawson Financial System, UKG, and website navigation.

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work independently and within a team.

Strong customer service skills.

Strong time management and organizational skills, ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities.
