This is a job for someone who is responsible and independent. There will be very little oversight. You will receive assignments each month and it is up to you to do them by the deadline (usually 2 weeks, but can easily be extended). There will be some training but your success will mostly rely on your instincts and time management. There are typically 3 different types of assignment:
1: Regular surveys. No appointment necessary. Drive to the home or business, introduce yourself, and take the instructed photos of the exterior. You will note certain aspects of the home such as obvious hazards. You should have a decent, dedicated camera for this but it may be possible with a good mobile phone. Each assignment takes 5-10 minutes.
2: Claims photos. You will make an appointment with the claimant. You will then drive to the agreed upon location and take approximately 10 photos of the claimant's damaged vehicle. It takes only a few minutes to take the photos but some driving might be involved if you can't get claimants to come to you.
3: Interior surveys. You will need to make an appointment for these. Functionally the same as #2, except with some interior photos and an interview with the homeowner. Each takes 15-20 minutes in the field.
The pros of this job include being able to do the work on your own schedule. There is very little oversight, but sometimes there can be a fair bit of driving.
The successful applicant will have excellent communication and customer service skills. They will also need decent critical thinking/problem solving skills for when things don't go on rails (Again, little oversight).
You should have basic computer/technology skills - you should understand how to fill in a pre-formatted spreadsheet. An entry-level understanding of photography would be helpful.
Pay is per assignment. Claims assignments are all $18 each. Surveys start at $8 for Rochester and pay more depending on distance from the city.
You will need a reliable vehicle. You will also need a smartphone, a computer, and a dedicated camera is advised. You will need to pass a background check with First Advantage, and this cost (usually around $100) will be your responsibilitybut I am willing to discuss options for reimbursement depending on how long you stay with the job.
