Hours: 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.Location: High SchoolDUTIES:

Plans, directs and participates in work of Lead Food Service Workers and other employees engaged in the preparation, cooking and distribution of food in the Central Kitchen or the satellite food program.

Supervises the serving of food and the transportation of meals to other schools.

Requisitions meats, vegetables and other foodstuffs.

Assists in training new employees to perform skilled food preparation procedures.

Maintains time records of food service personnel.

Assures maintenance of acceptable sanitary levels in food preparation procedures through instruction and visual check.

Supervises the HACCP policy principles and procedures and is responsible for training food service personnel on HACCP policy and procedures.

Orders food and supplies on daily, weekly and/or monthly basis for Central Kitchen and satellite kitchens.

Maintains stock and oversees drivers with performing monthly inventory of food and supplies.

Keeps records of purchased food and surplus food from governmental sources.

May count money received and prepare for bank deposit. May oversee preparation of daily bank deposit.

Attends monthly Lead Food Service Worker meeting.

Assists in menu planning for elementary, secondary and faculty with food service director.

Assigns work to and supervises food service workers in cleaning, dishwashing and related sanitary and maintenance activities as required by the District as well as the Suffolk County Dept. of Health.

Assigns work to and supervises drivers and custodians in the food service department.

Maintains up to date Suffolk County Department of Health Food Managers’ Certificate.

Job QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFIICATIONS:Either:

a) Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and two (2) years of experience in the preparation of food on a large scale; or,

b) Two (2) years of experience as a permanent Cook.NOTE: Additional experience may be substituted for education, put to a maximum of two (2) years.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSCandidates employed must attend ongoing continuing education/training as required by the Food and Nutrition Service of the United States Department of Agriculture.
