The department seeks ambitious students who wish to gain knowledge through hands-on experiences, combining art and design history and contemporary developments within the field to understand the past and speculate upon the future. The State University of New York at Oswego is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and is an institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).By working with art and design history, studio art, graphic design, illustration, and interaction design, students are given opportunities to expand their artistic horizons, define and use current methodologies, and firmly grasp the importance of their work in multiple aspects of modern society. Students and faculty boldly explore the tangible and the rhetorical dimensions of art.At Oswego, students can elect degree programs that include the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and (B.F.A.) in Fine Arts with degree areas including Studio Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, and Interaction Design. There is also the opportunity to earn a minor in various art and design related areas. We offer a wide range of courses in multimedia, illustration, art history, ceramics, painting, interaction design, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, web design, 3D modeling, museum studies, graphic design, art therapy, and motion graphics.Our studios place us firmly at the intersection of today's digital evolution with the ability to dive into emerging media forms as they appear on the horizon. The recently renovated studios in Tyler Hall are well-equipped to support all our disciplinary areas across the fine and performing arts. In the final stages of extensive renovation, Hewitt Hall will be a state-of-the-art facility with studios designed to grow all digital and emerging media areas that support our established programs in graphic and interaction design, illustration, broadcasting, and cinema and screen studies. Primary teaching responsibilities include teaching upper-level courses in motion and interaction design courses at the junior, senior, and graduate level.
Ability to teach in web and UX design highly desirable.
Additional teaching responsibility includes expanding knowledge of diversity, historical, theoretical, critical and contemporary global/multicultural practices in the visual arts.
Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of contemporary and critical issues in visual art, the role of emerging media and technology in contemporary 2D, 3D and 4D art and design.
Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, teaching and leadership ability, and a collaborative working style.
Candidates must demonstrate innovative thinking in course and curriculum development.
Departmental responsibilities include being involved with program planning, assessment, curriculum development, student advisement, and participation in department governance.
University responsibilities include staying current on health and safety issues; participation in campus governance; commitment to research/creative activity.

Required Qualifications:
Advanced degree in graphic/interaction design, or a closely related field
Successful teaching at the college level
Experience in the field
Record of presentations, exhibitions/projects, and/or publications in one's area of interest that demonstrates commitment to a practice
Proficiency in Macintosh computer environment
Proficiency in Adobe Cloud Applications as well as other leading software applications used in the field
Preferred Qualifications:
MFA, MDes, or MA with five of more years of professional experience
University level teaching experience past graduate school
Professional experience in the field past graduate school
