Masa.Kanai is a Japanese salon in the upscale and peaceful area of the Upper West Side!
We are looking for a skilled candidate join our team as a shampoo assistant. Candidates must be fast paced, adaptable, responsible, and professional. We are ideally looking for a part-time assistant, one to three days a week - but we are open to discussions. However, Saturday availability will be required.
Responsibilities:
Help the stylists attend to their customers:
- Guide customers to the stylists’ stations
- Shampoo and help blow dry
- Provide deep conditioning treatments
- Perform color tasks such as setting up, assisting color applications, applying toner
Maintaining the cleanliness of the salon
Asking and serving drinks
Checking the schedule and being prepared for the next guests
Communicating between the front desk, the stylists, and other assistants to ensure everything is running smoothly
Multitasking between different stylists and several duties
Requirements:
US Citizenship or Green Card/US Work Authorization
Clean and stylish appearance
Friendly and professional demeanor
Prior salon experience
For those who are just stepping foot into the hair scene and are interested in growing with MASA.KANAI, we also offer a meticulous Assistant Program that will provide you with everything you need to blossom into a successful stylist! This program is up to your volition if you are interested in education. Classes are available one to three times a week with the projected timeline for debut being between one to three years depending on your own individual speed. Step-by-step, we will take you through:
1. Shampoo Massages & Conditioning Treatments
2. High-End Blow Outs & Styling
3. Cuts of All Variety – Long Layers, Bobs, Pixies, Barbers, etc.
4. Color Theory, Formulation, & Application
5. Debut on the Floor!
