job title: Production Assistant/Merch Coordinator
We are seeking a Merchandise Coordinator (better known in the industry as a Production Assistant) to work with our warehouse, production, photo & creative team on a weekly - as needed, basis.
This could include scheduling for multiple 5-Day photoshoots in consecutive weeks throughout the month.
We do ask you have M-F availability, with occasional weekend work – the more open the better
///Roles and Responsibilities
-This includes on-set support and merchandise handling including(but is not limited to) building furniture, carrying furniture and preparing product for upcoming shoots. Weeks leading up to a shoot we have MC’s working in our warehouse staging bays, combing through creative decks and hunting down furniture on other sets.
-General set cleanliness as well as being at the ready and present for any little shifts needed to assist the creative team during a photoshoot(ie: roating rugs, installing wall shelves, hanging artwork and rigging lighting. Power Tool knowledge is a must). Sometimes on set you are the jack of all trades, from helping a stylist to helping the photographer to even moving something for someone on a neighboring shoot
-Other important responsibilities include packing trucks, traveling to offsite jobs in lived in homes, wrapping furniture and being the general liaison with our warehouse team. General on-set photo assistant duties, repotting plants, carrying 50lbs+ are all normal occurrences during the week as well.
–Driving 14’ box truck or bigger experience is a must – in and around Manhattan, Brooklyn, upstate etc all MCs need this skill as we regularly travel around the city shooting in homes.
-When scheduled, assignments are typically 5 days per week and may include up to 10-hour days. Having open availability is preferred as mentioned
Who we are looking for?
o A candidate who is highly organized, adaptable and extremely detail oriented.
o Ability to lift 50lbs+ as well as carry furniture(sofas, dining tables, chairs, etc)
o Someone who has already managed product, worked similar furniture type photoshoots and or understand how a photoshoot functions.
o The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and take control of given problem, when furniture goes array and its on another set can you help locate AND be nearby for set moves?
o The readiness to switch tasks at a moments notice, maybe someone asked you to move a couch but then someone asked you to stop doing that to grab a planter.
o Someone who is solution oriented, process focused, a great communicator and a creative problem solver.
o People who want to grow into a full time role, learn, be part of team is essential.
o A candidate who is punctual and never late to a job.
o Someone with at least 1 year photoset experience preferably in furniture photoshoots or merch coordination.
o Someone who is handy with power tools, who can rig lights, who is open to being handy on set – maybe we need to move some set walls and screw them together can you do this?
Essential Tasks
o Duties for this position include moving furniture, keeping organized with photo samples (ranging in scale from a pillowcase to a sofa),
providing support to photo and styling crews with related tasks, monitoring shot lists.
o Maintain a clean & welcoming work environment both at the studio or on location, including sweeping and general upkeep.
o Execute load in/load out of production gear & product for the photoshoot.
o Driving trucks around NYC and UPSTATE NY monthly
o Requires extensive periods of active moving & standing (8+ hours).
o Assist with various pre & post-production needs, cleaning, preparing, ironing, planting, steaming, coffee runs, etc…
o Maintain workflow and prioritize sample merchandise for multiple sets, wrapping and protecting and returning merchandise.
o Respectful conduct within the rented location property, respecting homes as if they were our owns.
Essential Requirements
o 1 Year Photo Studio/Equipment Room Experience
o Associates degree in related field or equivalent experience
o Superior organizational skills
o Highly detail oriented
o Positive, can do attitude
o Experience with packing, wrapping, moving furniture, and delicate goods.
o Experience working in a fast-paced production environment
o Driver’s license and experience driving 14′ box trucks
o Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs
