Litigation Attorney (HOURLY + O/T) - PERM W-2 POSSIBLEManhatt

New York, New york city 00000 New york city USA
Aplica ya

Prior Litigation Experience is Required. It DOES NOT need to be educational hearings, but some significant experience making appearances is required.

We seek highly motivated and passionate 100% REMOTE mid-level lawyers to join our special education law practice. In this contract remote role, you will have the opportunity to gain immediate exposure to litigation in administrative court, working closely with our experienced attorneys and paralegals.

You will consistently work a minimum of 40 hours a week. This is not piecemeal work or a paper-pushing job. Most of your day will be spent making appearances in NYC OATH and updating your files afterward. You will also review and prep for the next day and follow up with witnesses. Furthermore, if all parties are happy, this could become a W-2 perm job with benefits.

Responsibilities:

1. Case Management: Assist in managing a caseload of special education cases, primarily involving administrative hearings. Communicate with all relevant parties, including administrative judges and NYC DOE staff.

2. Legal Research: Conduct legal research and analysis to support case strategies and arguments.

3. Document Preparation: Draft legal documents, including due process complaints, motions, and briefs, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

4. Client Interaction: Communicate with parents, educational agencies, and providers to gather information, provide updates, and address their concerns throughout the legal process. You will need to be comfortable preparing witnesses for hearings.

5. Court Appearances: You must be comfortable attending administrative hearings and court proceedings to represent clients and present legal arguments effectively.

6. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with senior attorneys, paralegals, and other team members to achieve positive outcomes for clients.

7. Continuous Learning: Stay informed about developments in special education law, attend training sessions, and engage in ongoing professional development.

Qualifications:

1. Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

2. Admission to the NYS Bar.

3. Strong interest in special education law and advocacy.

4. Excellent research, writing, and oral communication skills.

5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
