Grand Bazaar NYC is a social mission-based company. It is the largest, oldest, and most dynamic and diverse curated weekly (flea) market in New York City. It’s the market of New York City. Home to many local and talented artists, designers, craft makers, independent vintage and antique dealers, and artisanal food entrepreneurs. Throughout the year it also organizes various special themed events and pop-ups. It’s the funding source for four neighborhood public schools, benefiting over 2,000 children, by donating 100% of its profits. Furthermore, it provides much needed affordable retail space to independent merchants selling one-of-a-kind, rare, and limited-edition goods. Your Role:

The Market Traffic role will be responsible for directing and monitoring the visitors (shoppers) and merchants (customers) at the entrances and throughout the space. Making sure everyone is and feels welcomed and safe from the moment they enter the market. First impression counts, therefore we are seeking a friendly and service-oriented person who enjoys working independently and in a team. Must be able to work all day on Sundays.

You are Responsible for:

Working with various team members, merchants and management to ensure that the market has a flawless day.

Maintaining position at the entrances, greeting visitors and merchants, and assisting them with any service-related questions and issues in a timely, friendly and efficient manner.

During load-in and load-out, directing merchants’ vehicles ensuring a smooth and secure transition from the street, to the loading area, to on-site parking, or vacating the premises.

When needed assist merchants with load-in/out.

Setting-up the indoor and outdoor market with signage, and assisting when needed with tents, tables, chairs, etc.

Cleaning and keeping the area at the entrance orderly, and the inside and outside the market prior to opening.

Doing what is needed and right to complete the tasks and achieve the required and best possible outcomes.

At all times, monitoring the activity at entrances and throughout the market, and reporting to Supervisor/Management any issues or concerns.

Dealing with any difficult situations that arise in a safe, calm, and professional manner.

Creating and maintaining a safe and secure environment for visitors, merchants, and staff by patrolling and monitoring the area around and inside the market.

Detecting and preventing theft, vandalism or any other form of crime or disturbances.

Ensuring that at the end-of-the-day all visitors have left the premise, and no one (re)enters after closing to the public.

Making sure that at the end-of-the-day all signage has been removed and stowed away correctly, and that the food court and entrances areas are cleared and broom clean.

Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent.

We are a small team therefore everyone is very hands-on; hence you must be able to work independently and handle many different tasks in a team originated environment.

Friendly and open personality.

Ability to service visitors and merchants without anticipation of remuneration (tips).

Give full attention to the work at hand to minimize issues (unauthorized entry, cleanness)

Dependability — Job requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfilling obligations.

Self Control — Job requires maintaining composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in very difficult situations.

Stress Tolerance — Job requires accepting criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations and a wide range of personalities.

Ability to prioritize to ensure efficiency and overall positive outcomes.

Ability to lift and carry 60lbs.

Possess stamina and resilience to work a full day at the market - standing and walking for extended periods of time, sometimes in extreme temperatures.

At all times be positive, responsible, collaborative and professional personality.

Work Sundays, and occasionally Saturdays, and must start at 7am.

Work location will be at the market located 77th St. & Columbus Ave., Manhattan.

Compensation & Benefits:

$17.00 per hour

Three (3) paid time off (PTO) days

Annual end-of-year discretionary bonus

Company matching 401K contribution.
