Part-time Cook/ Food Preparer at Grounded Cafe

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic cook to join our team at Grounded Cafe in Park Slope. You will be responsible for ensuring the quality and timely preparation of our dishes, including toasts, salads, soups, smoothies and other items. Your role will be crucial in maintaining our standards of freshness, taste, and presentation, providing our customers with a great experience.

Responsibilities:

Food Service: Prepare, assemble & heat dishes to order according to established recipes and portion sizes, ensuring consistency and quality. Blend smoothies and make açaí bowls. Be cognizant of food allergens and cross contamination.

Preparation: Food prep including vegetable washing and cutting, making salad dressing, boiling & peeling eggs, roasting vegetables, cooking soup, light baking. Properly cooling, labeling and storing ingredients according to DOH standards. Set up and break down stations upon opening & closing. Restock ingredients from the basement as needed.

Cleaning: Adhere to hygiene and sanitation standards at all times. Keep workstations clean and organized, including proper storage of ingredients and utensils. All staff shares in the responsibility of washing and putting away dishes. In addition to maintaining clean and organized stations, you will be responsible for end of shift cleaning duties, including, but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, spraying down and disinfecting surfaces, and washing mats. On a weekly basis, you will be assigned some deep cleaning duties.

Collaborate with baristas and kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations during peak hours. Communicate effectively to coordinate food preparation and prioritize orders.

Monitor food quality throughout the preparation process, promptly addressing any discrepancies or issues to maintain high standards.

While this is a BOH position, you will need to occasionally Interact with customers in a friendly and professional manner, addressing any inquiries or special requests regarding menu items and food allergens.

Requirements:

-Prior experience in food preparation and cooking, preferably in a café or restaurant setting. Recent culinary school graduates are encouraged to apply but education not required.

-Knowledge of basic culinary techniques and food safety protocols.

-Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

-Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

-Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

-New York Food Handlers Certification required

-Basic ability to understand and communicate in English, read and comprehend tickets and on-screen orders

-Strong understanding of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free ingredients, and food allergens a plus!
