Modern Love is a vegan comfort food restaurant in Williamsburg based on the recipes of chef and cookbook author Isa Chandra Moskowitz. We are looking for a FOH manager that is great with people, understands small business and has a passion for vegan food.
Before the job description stuff, a little history. We have been in business for 7+ years. Before the pandemic we were completely dine-in with a little delivery here and there. During the pandemic we developed a strong delivery audience and it's kind of stayed that way, with a large percentage of sales being to-go. So we definitely have busy nights. But we need someone with plenty of experience dealing with the delivery side of things as well.
So long story short, we are a small restaurant with a solid staff, still navigating this changed restaurant world. We are looking for someone who gets that and is along for the ride.
Responsibilities include:
Hiring, training and scheduling FOH staff
Ensuring that service flows smoothly
Customer service in-house and via phone
Working with kitchen to ensure quality and consistency of food
Keeping all FOH checklists up-to-date
Beer and wine ordering, overseeing the bar
Keeping online and in-house menus up-to-date
Overseeing the upkeep of FOH, making sure plants are looking great, cleaning checklists are getting done and everything looks amaze
Hosting a few nights a week
Assisting with social media
Ordering FOH supplies as needed
Communicating with the chef/owner
Tech requirements:
Working knowledge of delivery platforms - Doordash, Grubhub etc
Knowledge of online ordering platforms, we are currently using Square but may change that
Keeping online menus up-to-date
Proficient Mac skills
General web savviness (google docs, Yelp)
Social media knowledge is a plus, a good eye for photos is helpful
We use Slack to communicate and Homebase for scheduling, knowledge of similar apps is helpful
OpenTable or other reservation software
Requirements:
2 years experience in any managerial FOH position
Overall positive attitude and ability to keep cool under pressure
NYC Food handler’s license or willingness to obtain one
Pay:
We have a range of $65 - $70 annually, depending on experience. It is negotiable. Additionally, we will pay into your health insurance via QSEHRA. We offer 6 sick days and 10 days vacation pay.
