The Granddaddy is a thriving cafe in a perfect corner spot with a window seat to Chinatown and the LES. We live to serve our culturally vibrant neighbors and colorful art community. We serve up a classic espresso/coffee/tea menu with a selection of specialty offerings, and a curated rotation of snacks from some of NYC’s best vendors.
Our baristas are the face and heart of our locally-owned independent cafe, and we’re incredibly lucky to have a wonderful and talented team. Some have been with our family since the beginning and we’d love to add a special new member to this sunny corner we call home.
We’re looking for a warm, upbeat and experienced Barista with a passion for coffee culture, who wants a flexible environment in which to grow. We offer plenty of autonomy and an open communication stream between colleagues and owners. We encourage collaboration, creative minds and suggestions that can shape and evolve, not only the business, but your unique experience in working with us.
We are constantly evolving our coffee and specialty drinks program, and the ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and proactive contributor. You’re a natural host, greet all our guests with an easy smile, while offering quick, personalized service—even when things pick-up. You approach challenges and customer service concerns, with calm and sound judgment, empathy, and self-initiative. Add a dash of good-nature humor, and you could be our dream candidate.
We are also excited to be developing our beer and wine program, where there are additional opportunities for growth.
Candidate must have
A contagiously positive, easy-going and receptive attitude, considerate to our guests and The Granddaddy team.
A passion for the coffee industry, a commitment to quality, and an on-going awareness and desire to learn the latest techniques and trends.
NY Food Handler’s Certification or certification.
Proven experience in specialty coffee, including an in-depth knowledge and best practices of coffee and extraction in a variety of brew methods at a high volume.
Strong latte art skills.
An overall great work ethic and sensibility—be punctual, a self-starter, accountable, reliable, organized, with a strong attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills.
Receptive to new technology that aid in streamlining communications and productivity.
Responsibilities
Provide knowledgeable service to support our product offerings, and complement the brand experience.
Prepare all offerings at a quick and efficient pace while maintaining consistent high-quality standards and presentation.
Follow strict health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products and equipment.
Perform point-of-sale duties, including payment processing, opening and closing protocol, inventory management, and all other tasks relevant to day-to-day business maintenance.
Work as a team to maintain and improve on quality and service.
Assist in the training of new staff.
