Job DescriptionThe New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) seeks to recruit a dynamic Staffing & Certification Specialist to join its fast-paced Human Resources – Staffing & Certification unit. Reporting directly to the Human Resources Manager, the selected candidate will perform the following job functions that include, but not limited to:

Recruiting for Agency positions through the development of job postings and

recruitment strategies and civil service lists

Establishing and maintaining regular and proactive communications with

hiring managers to provide status updates on hiring needs

Utilizing PRISE in order to solicit civil service cert certifications, research

employee history and enter certification dispositions

Managing and conducting pre-employment and on-boarding for all new employees

Acting as a liaison between DCAS and DOC with regards to the establishment of

civil service list

Collaborating with and builds relationships across functional divisions and

management, as necessary

Participating in the interview process and entering interview evaluations in

NYCAPS; as necessary

Preparing job offer transactions in NYCAPS to ensure payroll action is taken

Requesting DP-2001 and Travelling Personnel Folders (TPF) for transferring

employees from other mayoral agencies

Processing electronic DP-72 transactions and DP-189(s)

Payrolling all new hires, promotions and salary adjustments

Preparing all employee personnel folders for review and audit

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or

Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
