Job DescriptionResearch Assistant, Integrated Genomics Operation (IGO) Exciting Opportunity at MSK: The Integrated Genomics Operation (IGO) enables basic, clinical and translational research projects across the Cancer Center. Ultimately, the focus of our work is to help establish the basis of cancer pathogenesis, diagnostics and treatment at MSKCC. At the IGO, we implement the MSK mission to cure cancer by providing a broad range of genomic services and expertise to our world-class research scientists. We are a high throughput core facility producing >100TB of data per year across >40 applications including “fourth generation” genomics technologies such as single cell and spatial transcriptomics. Role Overview: · Extract nucleic acids from a variety of biomaterial – model organisms and patient material for research (archival sections, frozen surgical and biopsies, plasma, etc) · Understand and train on quality assurance and quality control of extracted nucleic acids · Learn the theory, design and execution of droplet digital PCR experiments, traditionally used to validate oncogenic alterations with a high degree of sensitivity and accuracy. · Work on the latest spatial transcriptomic technologies from 10x genomics and Nanostring · Work with your team to create workflows following LEAN principles. · Communicate with scientists, vendor technical support and sales representatives. · Learn to operate liquid handlers and robotic instruments for high throughput processing · Maintain and coordinate documentation on the IGO Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Key Qualifications: · Previous molecular biology experience Core Skills: · Enthusiastic about research, organization and detail oriented · Able to work independently while working in a large team · Able to work with a diverse group of colleagues · Comfortable with manual or automated processing · Someone who can handle a very fast paced environment and the pressure associated with deadlines. · An outstanding communicator. · Someone who can multitask with strong prioritization and time management skills. Additional Information: · Location: MSK’s Main Campus 1275 York Ave, in NYC. · Schedule: M-F 9am-5 pm · We are open to considering candidates available for relocation to NYC this summer.
