- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Transports, sorts and disposes all regulated medical waste. Screens transport trucks for radioactive waste at entrance to compactor room. Places radioactive bags in separate plastic medical waste containers for storage in the holding area. Transfers regulated medical waste from transport trucks to plastic medical waste containers.
- Periodically checks storage containers to remove fully decayed radioactive regulated medical waste for transfer to the normal regulated medical waste stream. Places labels with the name and address of the Hospitals/Medical Center on all needle boxes. Places labels with the name and address of the Hospitals/Medical Center on all fiber boxes containing pathological waste.
- Installs red bags and/or needle boxes into the plastic medical waste containers, closes the cover on the container and affixes a label with the name and address of the Medical Center on the cover of the container. Places each tub between the radiation confirmation system.
- Places radiation bags on all tubs identified as radioactive. Weighs and records the weight of each tub on the tally sheet. Transports and stacks each tab on the trailer for removal off premises. Transports and stacks each fiber drum on the trailer for removal off premises. Retains the yellow copy of the Regulated Medical Waste manifest when each load is picked up for disposal. Wears safety shoes, latex, examination gloves and work gloves while handling regulated medical waste.
- Cleans the compactor room and equipment. Wipes down and cleans sink, paper towel holder, bulletin board, and telephone. Sweeps the floor as needed. Washes the floor daily, with a bleach solution - 1 part bleach to 10 parts water. Handles regulated medical waste in accordance with departmental procedures. Performs routine equipment performance inspections and reports discrepancies. Insures that supplies used in the processing of regulated medical waste are stocked in proper quantities.
