Jewish woman with complex disabilities who loves the ocean, cooking, music, growing vegetables, and building community seeks personal assistants for household tasks, personal care, medical tasks, and other daily life activities.
Full time (preferred) or part time available. Looking for long term employees. Paid weekly at $20/hr. Health insurance, retirement benefits, PTO, and overtime available. Usually set weekly schedule, some flexibility available and required. Currently the typical schedule is 5 hour shifts (10:30 am - 3:30 pm, 6 pm to 11 pm), weekdays and weekends. May change soon to longer shifts (12 hours, with night shifts available) due to increased care needs requiring 24/7 care. Must be able to work some holidays. Also offering cover hours to people who would like to work when regular aides call out.
Looking to assemble a team of assistants who will collectively be able to complete all the necessary components of the position, including coordinate well with one another. You will not generally work together in person, but one on one with the employer.
Each aide must be able to complete the daily routine tasks needed during every shift, but other duties such as driving and keeping track of medical admin can be split between different members of the team. So knowing and communicating what areas you are more or less skilled in, as well as your boundaries and comfort levels, is essential.
Job requires the ability to:
-communicate clearly
-lift 30-50 lb comfortably and perform various physicaltasks
-stand or sit for long periods, and walk for 30-60+ minutes
-make administrative phone calls
-perform medical and personal care tasks (training provided)
-wear a KN95 mask for full shifts
-follow and memorize detailed instructions
-adapt to the employer's variable needs
-respond to difficult situations such as medical challenges with compassion and solidarity
-work in an environment with cats
Tasks each assistant must be able to do:
- Direct assistance with personal care and basic activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, bedpan, and feeding.
- Medical tasks - no experience necessary, training provided. Includes setting up tube feeds and IV infusions, administering medications, etc. These tasks require precision, focus, and fine manual dexterity to execute safely.
- Household tasks such as cooking, cleaning, organizing, basic household maintenance, retrieving packages
-Medical admin such as calling doctors' offices to schedule appointments, follow up regarding referrals, calling insurance company etc. Must be able to communicate important medical information in a clear, professional, and accurate way, keep track of what calls were made, their outcome, and any follow up required.
Tasks that can be divided between different members of the team:
- Developing and maintaining organizational systems and planning
- Coordinating schedules and care tasks with other assistants and caregivers
-Keeping track of and coordinating medical admin such as phone calls to doctors' offices and insurance company, keeping track of appointments, medical supply inventory, prescription refills etc.
- Driving and accompanying employer to medical appointments and other activities. Applications from assistants without a driver's license welcome on the understanding that you will sometimes be asked to swap shifts with a team member who can drive, if transportation is needed that day.
- Errands
COVID and other infection cautious. The successful candidates will be vaccinated and boosted for COVID and willing to take precautions such as wearing a KN95 mask during your shifts.
