The position available is a role within the ISG Management team. The Sustainable Finance team within ISG is responsible for scaling business opportunities and defining internal processes and coordination focused on sustainable finance activities across the ISG businesses. The team is integrated in various workstreams focused on identifying risks, implementing internal governance processes and coordination within the business unit in support of Morgan Stanley’s sustainability commitments and targets, including our published Net-Zero by 2050 ambition. The team’s mandate is to help ISG business units deliver client solutions across the division in an integrated and risk-adjusted way, and to ensure a harmonized and coordinated approach to governance on sustainable finance matters across Investment Banking, Global Capital Markets, Fixed Income, and Institutional Equity Divisions.The Specialist will be required to work with senior members of the business cross-functionally and cross-divisionally. The individual will be responsible for driving and managing a cohesive approach to execution of the business unit’s climate target activities, including ongoing iteration of the Firm’s targets over time, tracking essential data toward the Firm targets, ensuring the approach to climate targets and decarbonization is commercially viable, and assisting in developing insights and materials that support climate finance opportunities. The Specialist will ensure a coordinated approach internally related to the Firm’s climate-related transactions and opportunities that count toward various targets and metrics internally and externally. The Specialist will also help drive awareness on climate and transition finance issues and themes in a manner that supports both risk management and client-facing commercial teams in ISG Divisions to help pursue business opportunities. The position will ensure a coordinated and rigorous approach to collecting internal data, metrics and narratives around commercial climate-related finance efforts. The position has a global remit, where efforts will need to be tailored to local contexts.In coordination with partners across the Firm, these additional responsibilities include:

In partnership with the Firm’s Global Sustainability Office, provide analysis that informs the development and achievement of goals to support the Firm’s climate journey

Implementation of new policies and procedures and worklfows such as our Climate Strategy Assessment Framework (CSAF)

Support for internal and external metric development and reporting efforts that enable strategic business decision making and public transparency around climate-related business activities

In addition, the successful candidate will support the Divisional teams in conducting project management, due diligence, quality control, continual improvement, standard setting, maintenance and oversight of relevant data, processes and controls

The role will also assist in monitoring ongoing performance and market conditions around climate themes, and assist senior management in execution of the sustainable finance priorities in the integrated investment bank in a commercially relevant wayThe role will also evaluate and communicate key insights into emerging industry trends and capital markets activities:Key Responsibilities:

Ensure connectivity across Divisions to deliver comprehensive, coordinated climate-related measurement, tracking and governance related to climate finance activities

Coordinate with multiple constituents across Investment Banking, Global Capital Markets, Fixed Income and Equity Divisions, as well as the Global Sustainability Office, Finance, Controller, Credit Risk, Non-Financial Risk, Environmental and Social Risk, among others

Support the data and narrative requests generated by global regulators on the Firm’s climate-related business activities by developing responses and coordinating various stakeholders

Assist senior team members in performing climate related due diligence on Firm clients and transactions

Proactively contribute towards the development of new targets and governance frameworks related to the business’s climate finance activities

Collect, process and systematize relevant data in furtherance of the Firm’s climate commitments

Monitor ongoing performance and market conditions, ensuring adherence to Firm’s policies and industry best practices

Assist in and provide project management support for other Sustainable Finance-related activities that are not climate specific as neededThe successful candidate is a self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset that is grounded in climate finance. The candidate is deeply analytical and strategic and can convey complex ideas to a senior audience. The candidate can apply thinking on the theme of climate change across a variety of contexts related to corporate finance that can be applied to multiple disciplines across ISG Divisions. This is an opportunity to be part of an entrepreneurial team and lead efforts across Investment Banking, Global Capital Markets, and Fixed Income and Equity Divisions related to climate workstreams and other related business initiatives. Specific qualifications include: 5 years of experience in climate advisory, sustainability, and/or development of financial solutions to decarbonize emission-intensive sectors at a premier consulting firm or financial services firm

Broad knowledge of financial sector products and services (i.e. lending, capital markets activities, investment banking, carbon markets, etc.) is strongly preferred

An ability to manage multiple projects, provide data analysis and develop appropriate guardrails to ensure rigor and coordination in a risk- and governance-oriented environment

Experience in or formal education in essential climate change issues and themes

Offers technical knowledge on financial accounting, data analysis, climate scenarios and emission pathways

Comfort with understanding climate and carbon emissions data, ranging from macro data to issuer-specific carbon data

Able to assist in developing ideas around climate-related corporate finance solutions

Extraordinarily high level of motivation and commitment to working hard

Excellent Power Point and Excel skills

High level of focus on work quality and attention to detail

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Commercial instinct and ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines

Bachelor’s degree required; an MBA, CA and/or CFA designation would be a preference

Experience working in Investment Banking / Global Capital Markets is a plus/Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $125,000 and $180,000 per year for Associate, and between $145,000 and $250,000 per year for Vice President, at the commencement of employment.
