Late 30s woman with severe complex disabilities and a fabulous sense of humor, currently bedridden, seeks home care assistants (CDPAP) for household tasks, personal care, medical tasks, and other daily life activities. If you love cooking, cats, or organizing, this may be a great fit for you. Great position for freelancers, artists, students, etc. No caregiving or medical experience required -just willingness and ability to learn.
Assistants will generally work one-on-one with the employer, but will be expected to coordinate with one another as a team. The ideal applicants will be experienced at bringing a calm and positive attitude to a challenging situation and adept at navigating the complexities of the medical system.
Employer is immune suppressed; successful candidates will be vaccinated and boosted for COVID and will take general infection-control precautions including wearing a KN95 mask and regular hand-washing.
The employer requires 24/7 care; full- and part-time positions are available in 12-hour shifts, with day and night openings available. Candidates who can work weekends and holidays will receive priority. Driver's licence preferred.
Job responsibilities include:
- Performing medical and personal care tasks (training provided), including:
Administering medications
Managing tube feeds and IV fluids
Assisting with eating
Bathing and repositioning in bed
Changing bedpans
Monitoring symptoms and vital signs
- Assisting with physical therapy exercises
- Coordinating care with medical team (including other home care assistants)
- Making administrative phone calls to medical and insurance offices and tracking any necessary follow-up
- Performing household tasks including cooking, cleaning, organizing, and package retrieval
- Developing and maintaining organizational and planning systems
- Running local errands
-Supporting employer in pursuing her hobbies, interests, and social engagements, when possible. Eg making music, crochet, container gardening.
The ideal applicant will be:
- Able to communicate clearly and accurately, especially regarding complex medical information
- Comfortable lifting 50lbs
- Able to sit or stand for long periods, including walking for 60+ minutes
- Able to wear a KN95 mask for full shifts
- Capable of remembering and following detailed instructions
- Comfortable working in an environment with cats
- Able to meet difficult situations with compassion and solidarity
- Possessed of the precision, focus, and fine manual dexterity necessary to safely execute medical tasks
- Calm, steady, considerate, and discreet
Salary and benefits:
- $20/hr
