Amex is the first foreign payments network to operate in China, and this represents a significant opportunity for us to compete in one of the largest and most advanced payments markets in the world. The Enterprise China Management (ECM) team partners across EC and Amex to build the China business and capitalize on this incredibly exciting opportunity for growth.How will you make an impact in this role?The Director of Strategy and Business Development will report directly to the VP and GM overseeing the China business. The role will have 3 main responsibility areas.

Providing analysis and insight into our strategy for China.

Developing and executing on a proactive government and regulatory affairs agenda.

Leading business development initiatives that will strengthen and grow our business in China.

Key responsibilities include:

Conduct strategy and performance evaluation and provide insights and recommendations to EC Board members and other executives across Amex.

Manage Board and shareholder calendars, conduct proactive engagement, and provide updates across a range of issues throughout the year, including briefings prior to board meetings.

Develop and execute Amex government and regulatory affairs engagement strategy to ensure constructive dialogue and advocacy on priority items.

Coordinate Amex executives’ engagement with and visits to China, providing briefings on key topics, meeting objectives, and talking points to ensure effective trips.

Frame and structure growth opportunities, build business cases and engage with associated third parties in negotiations to realize these opportunities.

Qualifications :

Experience in strategy development, including conducting corporate strategy reviews and creation of strategic recommendations.

Solid understanding of payments networks; familiarity with China’s payment landscape preferred but not required.

Experience in strategic relationship management and partner negotiations.

Demonstrated ability to independently shape and manage complex cross-functional projects.

Adept at creating structure in ambiguity and driving clear actions and outcomes in large scale initiatives.

Proactive problem-solver; thinks creatively and strategically while being attentive to detail.

Strong executive communication skills and ability to influence partners across diverse levels.

People management experience and ability to cultivate a high performing team.

Strong work ethic, with experience managing partners and projects across multiple time zones.

Mandarin language skills strongly preferred but not required. Understanding of and familiarity with the Chinese governmental and regulatory landscape preferred but not required.

Ability to travel to China multiple times per year.

QualificationsSalary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefitsThe above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
