Our BIKE HSS mission is to fuel groundbreaking research and breakthrough discoveries that will alleviate chronic pain and keep people moving. Since 2019, BIKE HSS has raised nearly $7 million to support research initiatives across all disciplines in orthopedics and rheumatology. Funding supports treatments for rare immunological diseases, new regenerative medicine therapies, personalized surgical approaches, and the use of modern technology to improve patient outcomes. BIKE HSS is well positioned to become a philanthropic engine that has the power to change the way the world moves. PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE: The Director of BIKE HSS oversees all strategic planning, fundraising, and execution of BIKE HSS, an annual peer-to-peer cycling fundraising event now poised for exponential growth. BIKE includes a peer to peer fundraising and donor stewardship/retention program, the annual event – a 3-course ride with start/finish line festival as well as a virtual ride program, a corporate sponsorship and cause marketing program. In collaboration with Development staff, gift officers, administration and volunteers, the Director will lead strategy, fundraising and oversee all operations related to BIKE HSS. The Director will work closely with Service Line fundraisers to engage BIKE HSS physician leaders and physician riders to maximize grateful patient fundraising. The Director will facilitate the collaboration of several parties including: the Operations team, Development Communications and Digital Fundraising team on all fundraising and stewardship communications. Additionally, the Director will have management responsibility, supervising the BIKE HSS Manager, as well as new positions that may be created as the program grows. The Director will also manage relationships with contractual partners and the ride production consultant who is responsible for all ride and venue logistics, including routing, permitting, signage, staffing, safety, etc. Alongside the BIKE Manager, together they will develop year-round communication and stewardship plans, augment prospect lists and maximize personalization of all BIKE mailings with defined, effective follow up. He/She will partner with the Communications team to ensure messaging is aligned with brand and communication standards and the program aligns with HSS strategies/standards for social media. The Director will cultivate important relationships with event leadership, HSS physician teams, corporate sponsors/partners, and HSS athlete partners. The Director will define and execute a plan to increase participation, foster new relationships for sponsorship and expand upon the existing marketing plan to include new collateral to ensure the success of this ambitious growth opportunity. The right candidate will bring an high level of creativity, a strategic mindset, energy and enthusiasm to lead BIKE HSS – a growing program that is an important program for HSS. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops and executes short and long term strategy for program growth of BIKE HSS.

Leads the strategic planning process including: mission messaging, refreshed branding, updated impact reporting, sustained stewardship for key stakeholders and prospective sponsors, etc.

Develops expanded corporate sponsorship strategy. Leverages HSS relationships to roll out new industry participation that leads to positioning of BIKE HSS as a tri-state area philanthropic “Movement”.

Collaborates across various departments at HSS to raise visibility and awareness of BIKE HSS. Plans, implements, and grows an engagement strategy that positions BIKE HSS as an organization-wide social responsibility/wellness event.

Manages, cultivates and stewards a portfolio of new and existing donor contacts, networks (existing and prospective) and key influencers to support the growth of BIKE HSS.

Works closely with colleagues both within Development and across the organization in Physician Leadership offices.

Oversees internal physician participation and fundraising management, coordinating with Development staff to ensure seamless communication.

Maximizes the involvement of the Physician Fundraising Committee leadership and create an internal communication plan to grow and retain physician participation and widespread endorsement of BIKE.

Effectively leads direct report(s) to adhere to timeline and execute on plan as well as advancing sponsor/donor relationships that support BIKE HSS.

Oversees the management of the peer-to-peer fundraising platform at BikeHSS.org and ensures all information is kept current, compelling and well positioned.

Manages BIKE HSS vendors and consulting relationships and review, negotiate, approve and process all vendor contracts, in collaboration with HSS legal and insurance departments.

Prepares and manages budgets and oversees the processing of invoices and check requests.

Oversees the design, copy, and production of all collateral, including printed material, email communications, signage, incentives and giveaways, etc.

Expands current event model into a year-round program of fundraising, by developing and leading system wide efforts to engage all HSS Locations and constituent groups/communities to promote and participate in BIKE.

QualificationsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree

Possess a minimum of 8 years of fundraising, marketing, and/or event management experience; preferably in a medical setting/nonprofit environment

Peer-to-peer fundraising event management experience highly desired

COMPETENCIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; high degree of professionalism.

Highly motivated self-starter who is engaging, resilient and resourceful with the ability to work independently as well as part of the team.

Superior organizational skills, accuracy and precision in handling details & timely follow up.

Proven record of accomplishments that demonstrate initiative, creativity, managerial and interpersonal skills.

Ability to articulate compelling case for support for BIKE HSS in a complex internal and external fundraising environment.

Developed leadership abilities and willingness to take risks and solve problems creatively.

Knowledge of strategic planning and program growth; ability to effectively use existing resources while setting priorities.

Understand business implications of decisions and align work with strategic goals.

Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and a database management system, such as Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce etc.

Flexibility to participate in evening/weekend events and to travel, as needed.

Clear enthusiasm for advancing the mission of HSS.
