Job DescriptionONLY OPEN TO CURRENT YEAR-ROUND PARKS EMPLOYEESQualification Requirements This vacancy is only open to 1) current permanent Parks employees serving in the Administrative Manager civil service title or 2) on leave from the title or 3) permanent Parks employees in or on leave from a comparable title or 4) Parks employees who are reachable on a comparable civil service list.NYC Parks is the steward of over 30,000 acres of land – 14 percent of New York City – including more than 5,000 individual properties ranging from Coney Island Beach and Central Park to community gardens and Greenstreets. We operate more than 800 athletic fields and nearly 1,000 playgrounds, 1,800 basketball courts, 550 tennis courts, 65 public pools, 51 recreational facilities, 15 nature centers, 14 golf courses and 14 miles of beaches. We care for 1,200 monuments and 23 historic house museums. We look after 600,000 street trees and two million more in parks. We are New York City’s principal providers of recreational and athletic facilities and programs. We are home to free concerts, world-class sports events and cultural festivals.Major Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Borough Commissioner with wide latitude for independent judgment and initiative, serve as liaison to the Commissioner’s office, other Parks divisions, other city agencies and constituents.

Oversee the Borough Commissioner’s schedule. Supervise administrative staff and coordinate day-to-day operations of the office.

Spearhead, coordinate and work on special projects. Identify emerging issues, troubleshoot, problem solve and advise the Borough Commissioner and senior staff.

Prepare briefings, compile data, produce reports and track projects.

Assist in monitoring and drafting agency responses to correspondence, queries and related requests from city, state and federal elected officials, community boards, Mayor’s Office and other city agencies in collaboration with the First Deputy Commissioner’s office, key division staff and other agency leadership to ensure that responses support agency strategic objectives.

Liaise with local, state, and federal elected officials, community boards, and non-Parks Administration officials, in close consultation with key division staff and agency leadership.

Serve as a lead contact between Administration and other areas of Parks including the Commissioner’s Office with constituent groups and other city agencies on programming, public education and park enforcement matters.

Oversee the borough capital process, including the budget, design, construction and associated events.

Attend agency, community board and other meetings and events on behalf of the Borough Commissioner as requested.

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience requiring independent decision-making concerning program management or planning, allocation for resources and the scheduling and assignment of work, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity. The supervisory work must have been in the supervision of staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or

An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and five years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible experience as described in "1" above, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity. The supervisory work must have been in the supervision of staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of

satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible experience as described in "1" above, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity. The supervisory work must have been in the supervision of staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or

Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. However, all

candidates must possess the 18 months of administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience as described in "1", "2" or "3" above.
