Seeking Part-Time Toddler/Preschool Teacher

Mulberry House is a playschool for children ages 2-4 in Bushwick inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach. We are currently seeking an assistant teacher for our mixed-age class of children ages 2-4. This is a part time position of 20-30 hours per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

-Engage, supervise, and support children while ensuring their health and safety

-Support daily routines and rhythms with a calm and joyful demeanor

-Promote autonomy in assisting children with care routines (i.e., clean-up, toileting, dressing, hand-washing, etc.)

-Learn about and implement the Reggio Emilia Approach and Mulberry Methods

-Prepare, clean, and maintain the indoor and outdoor learning environments

-Support director in gathering information pertinent to parent/teacher conferences or reports

-Maintain an open line of communication with director and team about school matters

-Ensure completion of daily tasks, such as opening/closing and maintaining an orderly school

-Actively engage children outdoors in all weather on a daily basis

-Meet physical requirements: moving from sitting to standing position quickly, bending, reaching, lifting up to 40 lbs, quickly respond to auditory and visual cues

-Maintain licensing requirements for program: fingerprinting and background check, references, 15 hours of online training in first 3 months of employment, etc.

Required Qualifications:

-2 years of experience working with young children

-One personal and one professional reference (one must speak to your work with children)

-Ability to pass a comprehensive background check

-Ability to complete fingerprinting by the Department of Health

-Ability to demonstrate a firm understanding of child development and appropriate practice

-Self-motivated, hard working, quick to adapt and respond

-Professional in attire, attitude, punctuality, and attendance

Exceptional candidates have:

-Experience in childcare programs with children ages 2-4

-College level classes in early childhood education

-Clearance by the Department of Health

-Adult & Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certification

Compensation Range: $20-24/hour

This is a part-time, hourly position with room for growth.
