Elementary School Teacher

New York, New york city 00000 New york city USA

A small private school is looking to hire bubbly and passionate teachers to join us for 2024-25 school year and beyond. Solid knowledge of grade-appropriate subject matter is a must, as well as the ability to teach subjects logically.

We are a new model, presently in our fourth year, so there is plenty of room for growth as we grow. We offer a unique, fun, and a bit wacky space where we actively acknowledge that teaching is a no-joke career and that we all have bad days. Our teachers and staff work collectively and support one another, and the admin team works closely with teachers and students to help along the way. That being said, we are looking for teachers who think outside the box, care for their classrooms and students, and truly believe in working together with students, parents, and admins for the success of the children.

Our school model is atypical in both the environment and the curriculum, with small classes, a fast-paced curriculum, and applying different pedagogical philosophies in a hands-on way. As part of a research plan for providing better school environments, our program offers an exceptional amount of guidance, professional development, supervision, and all-around help not typically found in the school setting.

We are a hands-on program and function as a "homeschool" environment, though we are a fully accredited school in NYC. Our philosophy is rooted in individual student development, interpersonal relationships, and building bonds of logic and emotion with our students and curriculum. Differentiating lessons is extremely important and we have small classroom sizes to make that possible.

We are currently seeking full time teachers with experience and aptitude in core subjects at and above an elementary school level, specifically in science and history would be ideal, but math and English classes are also on the roster. A teacher with her/his own life experiences to share is welcomed, as we want to teach our students more than just standard textbook materials. Understanding the vast world for which they are preparing includes teaching them about the arts, cultures, and more, which are included subjects in our curriculum.

The perfect teachers for our school would be ready and willing to learn all there is in teaching methodology and approaches while bringing in a natural talent to teach, mentor, and guide. Knowing how to manage a class in an engaging way is a critical component of a successful teacher. We don't care as much about a teacher being certified as we do about a teacher knowing she can handle her classroom, teach effectively, and genuinely care about her students and their elementary school experience. We are a new school and are still growing. As is typical with private schools, we cannot be as competitive with salary as our government-funded counterparts, however, we do offer a vastly different environment and have happy teachers who know they are valued, supported, and heard. Some small perks we do offer may be flexible breaks throughout the day, additional funding for classroom set-up and project, beautiful classrooms that do not need to be designed on your dime, no state standardized testing, etc.

Our school year runs from September to June. We are closed for major holidays only and deviate slightly from DOE schedules. An annual commitment and contract will be required for this position.

If you feel that you're the right candidate, please reach out with a brief description of yourself as a teacher and your resume.
