Hi! I'm looking for a dedicated, experienced tutor to help my son, a motivated 10th-grade honors student, stay organized and succeed academically. His goals are ambitious—he's aiming for an Ivy League college and intends to pursue a law degree or an MBA. This would be a daily commitment of about an hour.
The ideal tutor should:
-Be strong in general subjects, with an understanding of high school-level science, math, English, etc (let us know if you have any subject limitations, as we can plan around those).
-Have excellent organizational skills to help my son manage his calendar, make a study plan, and keep track of assignments.
-Know effective study techniques like flashcards, memorization tricks, solid note-taking methods, etc.
-Be experienced with high-achieving students and understand the skills necessary for Ivy League or competitive college admissions.
-Have a firm but encouraging approach to keep my son focused and on task.
-Ideally can tutor in person but not required.
Primary Responsibilities (about 1hr a night):
-Checking in with him right after school to review the day’s work and set a plan for the evening.
-Having him report daily updates for each class, focusing on upcoming assignments, tests, or projects.
-Organizing his nightly homework and study requirements in a shared calendar, updated primarily at the start of the week, with daily adjustments as needed.
-Checking in with him throughout the evening to ensure he’s on track with his schedule.
-Reviewing upcoming assignments and tests to create a proactive study plan for the week, avoiding last-minute cramming.
-Guiding him to set achievable daily and weekly goals for his assignments and study sessions, teaching him to break down larger projects into manageable steps.
-Studying with him on subjects where he needs the most help, focusing on building a deep understanding rather than surface-level memorization.
-Teaching effective study habits, including how to take organized notes, prioritize tasks, and develop long-term memory techniques.
-Encouraging reflection at the end of each week to identify what went well and where he can improve for the following week, promoting self-awareness and growth in his study habits.
If you have a strong background in helping students reach competitive academic goals and can build a positive rapport with teens, we’d love to hear from you! Please reach out with a bit about your background, availability, and any relevant experience. Thank you!
