Matrimonial and Family Law Office, seeking a paralegal/legal assistant to support solo attorney. Relaxed and friendly office environment. Conscientious with respect to timeliness, time-management, attendance, and completion of work. Must be a self-starter with initiative and excellent communication skills, (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Exceptional customer service required, must be comfortable with heavy client contact as well as contact with court personnel, attorneys, and prospective clients. Computer literacy required. Attention to detail and accuracy a must. Familiarity with court procedures and e-filing requirements, a plus. Notary Public preferred.
Responsibilities include basic office tasks:
answering phones, sorting mail, typing, filing, scanning, faxing, etc.
Drafting correspondence and emails.
Drafting basic legal documents, under guidance of the attorney.
Maintaining the office calendar with appointments, court appearances, and deadlines.
Organizing and tracking case files and all deadlines pertaining to each.
Organizing and maintaining file documents, in paper form and on elec. filing system.
Maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the office.
Additional responsibilities may include:
Entering payments, billable time, and disbursements into billing system / mailing out monthly invoices and statements.
Filing documents via the NYSCEF system
Filing documents to Family Court via email.
Preparing basic legal documents: summons, complaints, petitions, discovery demands, statements of net worth, financial disclosure affidavits.
Preparing more complex legal documents: motions, affidavits, stipulations of settlement, divorce submission packets.
