My name is Kathleen Downes and I am a cognizant and self-directing young professional with cerebral palsy seeking personal care assistants to help me in my home and community. Tasks include but are not limited to: transfers to/from wheelchair, showering, dressing, light cleaning, food set up, and toileting. Experience with caregiving is appreciated but not required.
Training provided.
Shifts are usually 2.5 hours long and are available in the evening, typically 8:30PM-11:00PM (somewhat flexible)
Rate: $19.25 per hour, PTO of 1 hour per 30 hours worked, holiday pay on select days, weekend pay (extra 50 cents), life insurance ($15,000) and short-term disability policy (60% wages) available
Successful applicants should:
Be at least 18 years old
Have a valid Social Security number
Be comfortable with basic caregiving tasks and have a body positive attitude
Have a sense of humor
Be OK with a small dog and my sister’s cat who visits occasionally
Be physically strong and confident with lifting/moving
Be respectful of my privacy and my ability to make my own choices
Have reliable transportation to and from Floral Park, NY (Nassau County) car needed due to extremely limited public transit
Be able to commit to at least 3 shifts per week (4 preferred)
Be willing to undergo a background check at no cost
Be willing to get an updated COVID-19 vaccine (September 2023 or later) if not already done
Practice COVID safe behaviors (masking, handwashing etc. in my home)
Be paid through consumer-directed personal assistance (Medicaid program)
Be able to commit for at least 6 months’ work
This position is through the consumer directed personal assistance program. I am the employer, not an agency, but the funding is through Medicaid.
