Brooklyn's Red Hook Tavern is excited to welcome guests to our first sister restaurant out east, Sag Harbor Tavern, opening summer 2024 in beautiful Sag Harbor, NY!

Red Hook Tavern brings classic American tavern fare to the waterfront village of Red Hook, Brooklyn. This summer, we will bring the same warmth, atmosphere, and hospitality to Sag Harbor with a focus on the beautiful seafood caught right off the coast of Long Island.

We are looking for experienced local hospitality professionals to join us for the summer. We are hiring sommeliers, servers, bartenders, runners, bar backs, and maître d's. Candidates should be knowledgeable, approachable, and comfortable communicating with guests from different backgrounds. A certain level of flexibility and adaptability is appreciated since we are operating both inside the dining room and outside on our patio, and a true love of hospitality is required.

The Sommelier and Shift Supervisor is a combined wine sales, floor management and server role. The Sommelier and Shift Supervisor reports directly to the General Manager and Beverage Director.

The Sommelier and Shift Supervisor is the main point of contact between the guest and Sag Harbor Tavern's wine program. Wine service at Sag Harbor Tavern is unpretentious, unfussy, and quietly expert. Wine fluency, as well as knowledge of specific regions and producers of importance to Sag Harbor Tavern, is expected.

Additionally, the Sommelier and Shift Supervisor embodies the highest standards of service in line with Sag Harbor Tavern's values of hospitality and professionalism. In their capacity as Shift Supervisor, they ensure that service runs smoothly and according to Sag Harbor Tavern's standards, that front of house staff execute their responsibilities to standard, and that guests leave happy.

Responsibilities:

-Serving one section of the restaurant

-Helping guests in all sections of the restaurant select wines, both by the glass and by the bottle, as well as other beverages

-Assisting guests with pairings in all sections of the restaurant

-Conducting wine service in all sections of the restaurant

-Driving sales on the floor through pairings and table maintenance

-Maintaining a clean and organized cellar

-Alerting the Beverage Director to any lows, 86s, or faulty bottles

-Assisting the Beverage Director with monthly inventory

-Assisting the Beverage Director with purchases and menu selections

-Updating Toast and Craftable with bins and counts

-Embodying and maintaining standards of service and standards of beverage service among the FOH staff

-Supervising service - ensuring that the FOH staff is adequately prepared for service, that any service issues are addressed in the moment, and that guests leave happy

-Helping out with service as needed - running drinks and food, clearing and setting tables, assisting the host with seatings and reservations, updating Toast as needed

-Addressing guest complaints and issuing comps under General Manager guidelines

-Filing an End of Shift report detailing the shift for management and owners

The Sommelier & Shift Supervisor must be able to lift 50 pounds, have full use of both arms, and be able to take stairs.

The position is part-time and hourly, with a base compensation rate of $15/hour plus tips while working service. The Sommelier & Shift Supervisor will have a full point in the tip pool. The position will earn $18/hour when assisting with beverage inventory.
