Description:GreenStar offers excellent paid time off benefits as well as flexible and affordable heath benefits!Purpose: As a cook you will prepare and cook foods following recipes to produce flavorful and appealing foods; and will work with the production staff to produce the correct volume of food items according to menu forecasts. These tasks will be done in an efficient and timely way to meet schedules. Prepare items as assigned.Prepare foods for service bars and deli to provide both variety and consistency.Always follow correct food preparation guidelines and food safety protocol.Maintain a clean and orderly work area.Help to develop in-house recipes or menu items.Assist with ware-washing as assigned and/or where necessary—either machine or manual.Assist service bar staff as assigned and/or where necessary.Attend skills training, food safety training, and pre-shift or stand-up meetings to be well-informed.FOOD SAFETYMaintain accurate food temperatures in coolers/hot hold areas and record in temperature logs.Use corrective action for foods or equipment that are out of compliance; notify department manager immediately.Assist in keeping self-service areas clean and orderly; ensure customers are following standards, e.g., no tasting out of the hot foods bar.DEPARTMENT CLEANLINESS AND MAINTENANCEAssist Prepared Foods manager/supervisor to ensure correct storage and labeling procedures are in compliance.maintain department equipment in good working order.ensure that staff attire and BOH procedures follow established protocol.See that past-date or unsellable items are disposed of according to policy. Keep accurate shrinkage tallies and records.Ensure that shelves, counters, glass doors, hot and cold wells, tables, sinks, aisles, and storage areas are clean and orderly; also ensure that these areas comply with state, county codes and store policies.Remove trash promptly; ensure that floors are clean and tidy.Participate in inventory maintenance and control where assigned.Ensure maintenance of department equipment and notify manager if equipment is broken.WORKPLACE SAFETY RESPONSIBILITYFollow GreenStar's safety policies/rules.Assist other employees in safety needs Report unsafe equipment and conditions to department manager in a timely manner; tagging out equipment if necessary.Participate in safety training programs. Perform other tasks as assigned to ensure a safe and healthy work environmentCUSTOMER SERVICEWork as part of a team to develop a hospitable department group that feels welcoming to all.Maintain knowledge about all menus and foods being prepared, packaged, served.Follow recipes and instructions as assigned to produce consistent menu items as expected by customers. STOREWIDE AND OTHER DUTIESAttend HR training sessions, all-staff meetings, and department meetings.Support on-the-job training of new staff. Act as a positive influence on other staff.Read GreenStar publications to stay informed.Respect and comply with storewide personnel policies.Adhere to scheduled shifts.Perform other duties as assignedRequirements:QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLSExperience in commercial or professional food preparation and cooking.
