(www.DiscoverCayugaLake.org for more information.)

The Teal's crew is comprised of 2-4 people, working under the supervision of the Ship’s Captain. Effective working relationships and attention to safety are of utmost importance. The Crew Member position encompasses the following responsibilities.

1. As deck hands, crew members will assist the captain in ensuring the safe and successful operation of the vessel, including management of lines and navigation aids during docking procedures. Crew members are also responsible for the safety of all guests, and ensuring safe guests behaviors.

2. As interpreters, crew members present information on the sights and human and natural history of the lake and ensuring an overall pleasant visitor experience. A core narrative is provided, which individuals are expected to master and personalize based on their own strengths and interests.

3. As instructors, crew members will assist with educational small-group activities related to lake ecology, physical and biological sciences, for audiences ranging from 5th grade to adult.

Academic/professional background in natural resources, education or related fields is a plus. Candidates need not have expertise in all areas, and will have opportunities to focus on areas of strength or to develop skills of interest.

Requirements: Candidates must be prepared to work on a moving boat, in a range of conditions, and must be capable of lifting 50 pounds, handling lines during docking, operations and safety drills.

● Must adhere to drug-free certification and random testing, as required by the US Coast Guard.
