Scientific GlassblowerAPPLY Scientific GlassblowerEquipment Tech V - Band ECornell Center for Materials Research (CCMR)Who We AreThe Cornell Center for Materials Research (CCMR) shared instrument facility supports fundamental research and serves students, scientists, and researchers from Cornell and other academic, government, or industry researchers from around the world.What You Will DoThe Cornell Center for Materials Research (CCMR) seeks a scientific glass blower to join our research support team and to be the primary staff member overseeing glass shop operations. In this position you will interact with researchers on a wide variety of glassware projects of varying complexities. Typical projects will involve:Consultation,glass repairs,using torches, lathes and burners to cut, wash, grind, shape, form, unite and anneal glass products;forming glass-to-metal seals, vacuum manifolds, Schlenk lines, bubblers, and more;reading/making drawing/blueprints;using hand tools and mechanical tools.Success in this position will be achieved through the ability to work with various types of glasses, problem-solving skills and the ability to work on complex glassware projects, positive interaction with a variety of researchers, working with safety as a priority, maintaining an organized and active glass shop with detailed inventory and billing records. The glassblower will be able to set up the shop to their specifications while working with Cornell safety groups.This is a full-time, 1-year term appointment. This position is benefits-eligible.
