Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad. Campus and Community Engagement (CCE) provides a welcoming and inclusive community that respects the individual while promoting community values. We are dedicated to supporting students thrive in all stages of their Cornell career through student organization involvement, learning opportunities, and a multitude of leadership and engagement experiences. CCE includes a broad range of departments, including Campus Activities, Tatkon Center for New Students, Sorority & Fraternity Life, Parent and Family Programs, and the Cornell Commitment. Dedicated to enriching the student experience outside of the classroom, we partner with colleagues from across campus to build a community and create co-curricular opportunities where the intrinsic value and worth of the individual is affirmed and community standards and values are upheld. Sorority & Fraternity Life (SFL) provides support and resources to the 53 recognized sorority and fraternity organizations at Cornell, which is composed of over 3,000 undergraduate students. SFL supports student leaders and their communities as they cultivate an inclusive, meaningful, innovative, and developmental co-curricular sorority and fraternity experience. With a focus on individual and community health & well-being, through advocacy and innovation, we will collaborate with, empower, and support student leaders. Members will engage in developmental co-curricular experiences to create and foster ethical, inclusive, and meaningful communities. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student and Campus Life, the Director provides strategic vision and leadership for all aspects of the sorority and fraternity department and community, including leading the strategy, assessment, creation and implementation of transformative experiences for students. This position advocates for the community and creates an environment of learning, leadership development, and a sense of belonging and wellbeing of all chapters and members. In addition, the Director is responsible for the management of, and support to, university owned facilities that are part of the sorority and fraternity life experience, working closely with Alumni housing corporations and privately owned houses, Housing and Residence Life and the Student and Campus Life Facilities Team. This role develops both short- and long-term implementation plans for the unit, assessing current programming efforts as well as fundraising and development opportunities, while advancing and connecting department priorities in alignment with divisional priorities. The Director works collaboratively with campus partners to develop and facilitate prevention programming setting strategic priorities focused on risk reduction, prevention and education. Additionally, the position oversees all staff hiring, supervision and ongoing development of the sorority and fraternity life staff team. This position will occasionally be required to work irregular and flexible hours including evenings and weekends.Campus Collaboration -With students being the core of the work of the department, the Director builds and sustains collaborative relationships with all constituencies who support Sorority and Fraternity life on campus which include but are not limited to chapter advisors, house directors, alumni, parents, local community members, national headquarters staff, and faculty.Success Factors - The successful candidate is a visionary leader with an opportunity mindset who demonstrates commitment to diversity, and the ability to relate well to students, faculty, staff, volunteers, community members and administrators. The Director will effectively communicate a high-level vision to advance student engagement, design creative staffing teams, establish long range departmental goals, develop learning outcomes and assess programs and activities. Having a high level of experience with programming implementation and evaluation, the Director is able to articulate the importance of campus-wide relationships and demonstrates the ability to build relationships with students, advisors and all partners who work to support the sorority and fraternity life student population in a decentralized institution.
