Landscape Gardner S09APPLY Performs and oversees skilled landscape maintenance and/or landscape construction tasks including but not limited to: landscape design, tree/shrub transplanting, pruning and removals, flower bed design/selection, and agri-chemical applications. Individual will be expected to lead/ oversee Team in absence of Crew Leader to ensure that daily tasks and responsibilities are completed in a timely fashion. Performs manual labor for general landscape maintenance and/or landscape construction tasks including but not limited to: turf maintenance, agri-chem treatments, plant/bed maintenance, litter control, snow removal, and other duties as assigned. Responsible for some plant ordering and selection: mainly annuals, perennials, bulbs, and fall ornamentals and will work closely with fellow gardeners to ensure proper plant selection and flower bed rotation within their zones. Responsible for Nursery maintenance and plant stock care. Will help manage IPM program as well as chemical inventory and maintenance of our chemical storage facility. Operates a wide variety of landscape maintenance and snow removal equipment. Promptly reports unsafe conditions or damage to campus landscape, equipment, or facilities. Overall, provides technical support for all Grounds.Subject to call-in twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to handle emergencies, especially snow emergencies. Subject to shift changes and extended working hours (including nights, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays) to meet seasonal work demands. Subject to working in weather related extremes of heat and cold for extended periods. May come into contact with sewage and dead animals. Regular exposure to bees and pollen.This position is covered by the UAW Collective Bargaining Agreement. At the end of the probationary period employees will be required to pay union dues per article 1 of the agreement.No VISA sponsorship or relocation assistance is available for this position.Required Qualifications:Five years experience in grounds maintenance or related field with emphasis on ornamental plant care or equivalent combination of knowledge and experience; to include a minimum of three years experience providing leadership for the activities of landscape maintenance and/or construction work crews.Possess working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the landscape maintenance and construction fields.Ability to read planting/architectural plans, specifications, and blueprints fluently.Operate hand and motorized equipment such as commercial mowers, hand/power tools, tractors, and loaders.Valid motor vehicle operator license required. NYS pesticide applicator's license category 3a required.CNLP (Certified Nursery and Landscape Professional) Certification required or must obtain within 1 year of hire.Preferred Qualifications:Associates Degree or equivalent in applied plant sciences (e.g. arboriculture, ornamental horticulture, phytopathology, agronomy, or landscape management) preferable. Must be experienced in working in a fast paced commercial landscaping/snow removal environment.
