The Ithaca Farmers Market, located along the Cayuga Lake waterfront in downtown Ithaca, is a member-run cooperative market which has been providing access to locally produced goods since 1973, with over 160 agriculture, food, and artisan vendors as members. Our Market is open year-round, primarily at our Steamboat Landing location – a vibrant community space and tourist destination!
Who We’re Looking For: Do you love the Ithaca Farmers Market? Do you love all things local, getting outside, and keeping busy? We are looking for cheerful, detail-oriented, and responsible people who are enthusiastic about supporting our Market! The ideal candidate is able to do a variety of tasks, including moving heavy boxes, taking out the trash, and helping to set up or close the Pavilion each day, but is equally comfortable providing friendly and attentive customer service, or assisting in the office. Most shifts will include some of each activity!
Time Commitment: MUST WORK WEEKENDS
Shifts are usually full-day (with time off for lunch, and paid breaks). Unless you request otherwise, most months will include at least one full weekend off, and are scheduled in advance. Individuals who are only available to work one day per weekend are encouraged to apply but please note that preference will be given to candidates who can work both days each weekend throughout the rest of the year.
Compensation: $17.50 to $18.50 per hour, depending on experience.
Responsibilities:
Set up and break down the market, including but not limited to waste stations and merchandise display.
Greet customers and provide knowledgeable answers to questions about merchandise, the market, and market vendors.
Sell merchandise to customers and maintain tidiness of merch display during market hours, including folding/restocking merchandise.
Use Square POS system to handle electronic and cash transactions.
Additional duties may include:
Assisting management with collecting and recording daily vending fee payments.
Assisting SNAP customers with EBT transactions (and related training).
Accepting and recording vendor redemptions of EBT tokens and other nutrition incentive program coupons.
Assist the Zero Waste Project coordinator and assistants with the reusable dish program – including handling trash, pre-rinsing dishes, and/or supplying vendors with clean dishes.
Running on-site errands for office staff and/or vendors.
