Must have thorough knowledge of the tools, techniques and terminology associated with the automotive mechanic's trade.2. Must have good knowledge of accident and safety precautions of the trade.3. Must have the ability to perform difficult repairs, of all types on automotive equipment.4. Must have the ability to diagnose mechanical difficulties readily.5. Must have the ability to work from oral and written instructions and without instruction from own diagnosis.6. Must have the ability to get along well with others; and7. Must have physical strength and agility.8. Must be dependable and in good physical health.9. Must possess CDL New York State Class B with P, S and airbrake endorsement license at time of appointment.10. Must have graduated from high school or vocational school or be in possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years of satisfactory experience in the repair of automotive equipment. 11. Must have an elementary education and two (2) years of satisfactory experience in automotive repair, general supervision where applicable and completion of an approved one (1) year training course in automotive repair.

Must be familiar with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Must have a satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Finance and OperationsSupervisor of TransportationJOB GOAL: To perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance and repair tasks on all types of automotive equipment (especially buses), to insure the efficient and smooth operation of the school's Transportation Department.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Repairs and removes gasoline (or diesel) internal combustion engines, including the fitting of crankshafts, pistons, pins and bearings.

Removes and overhauls transmission and differentials.

Maintains and repairs fuel, cooling and exhaust systems.

Inspects, maintains and repairs electrical systems, chassis units, air brake systems and accessories.

Operates valve-grinder, drill press, lathe, welding and burning equipment and other related tools.

Repairs or assists in the repair of snow plows, road rollers, mowers, pumps, trucks, sewage operational equipment.

Assists with emergency snow removal.

Operates motorized equipment.

Performs manual laboring tasks connected with highway construction and maintenance operation.

Wears proper work clothing as specified by supervisor.

Operates/drives a school bus and transports children as required.

Prepare vehicles for Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections.

Performs related work as needed.
