References will be contacted at the time of on-campus interviews.Vacancy Announcement Position Information Campus Title Trades Generalist, SG-12 Department Facilities Services Position Summary HIGHLIGHTS The SUNY Geneseo Facilities Department is looking for a reliable and dedicated individual to join our team as a Trades Generalist.As a Trades Generalist, you would be responsible for journey-level work in the operation, maintenance, repair, and installation of a variety of building systems and components. The majority of your work will be in carpentry and window/glass replacement.To be successful in this position, you’ll need a working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the craft or crafts to which they are assigned. You may supervise and/or train other trade positions consistent with their skills, assign work, provide directions, observe work, and inspect to complete projects.Required Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.Preferred Qualifications OPERATIONAL NEEDS

Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, equipment, and applicable standards and codes used

Ability to lead small project teams and plan & execute projects

Experience in carpentry and window/glass replacement

Read blueprints & interpret building & furniture plans.

Maintain & repair doors, walls, windows, ceilings, roofs, counters, cabinets, flooring, furniture, millwork, glass, etc.

Maintain carpentry machinery, tools (hand & motorized), etc.

Plan & estimate materials & parts for repairs & projects.

Percentage Of Time 45%

Function 2: Glass Repair and Replacement

Replace broken windows.

Repair window sashes.

Repair and replace any glass on campus including in doors and in greenhouses.

Function 3: Stone, Brick & Concrete Work

Lay out work following blueprints, specifications, or by measuring distances from reference points

Mix and spread mortar

Maintain basic knowledge of applicable building & safety codes associated with the masonry trade

Plan & estimate materials & labor for all functions of the masonry work required

Function 4: Locksmith

Use a variety of tools to install new locks on doors, windows, etc.

Periodically set lock cylinders & change combinations on locks.

Compute changes to locks & keys to avoid duplication of combinations & record changes.

Maintain locks by disassembling, cleaning, oiling and replacing parts

Make new & duplicate keys, keeping extra keys in a secured area.

Estimate materials needed for lock & key systems.

Mixe plaster and erect scaffolding

Remove broken or loose plaster & prepare surfaces.

Apply a scratch coat and finishing coat of plaster to the desired thickness & texture.
