We welcome amazing individuals who have diverse backgrounds and experiences, are inspired by our mission and are highly motivated to change lives.We are seeking a qualified Education Specialist with a strong commitment to youth development for our Generation Q youth drop-in and summer programs. Generation Q is an LGBTQ+ Youth Drop in program for youth ages 13-21. In addition to our regular drop-in program, Generation Q offers a career readiness summer youth program for participants ages 16-24 years.Our programs are designed to encourage participants to explore interests and passions, develop positive social connections, contribute to their community, become life-long learners, and gain meaningful experiences. The Education Specialist is responsible for identifying suitable age-appropriate curricula, helping staff create age and developmentally appropriate activities and lesson plans, and overseeing implementation of all program activities; preferably project based learning activities. The Education Specialist will also have a key role in coaching and developing staff to foster continuous quality improvement (e.g., through data-informed decision-making, effective supervision, and professional development), and build productive relationships with program partners.Primary Responsibilities:

Plan and facilitate Project Based Learning and creative youth development curriculum and activities such that participants are meaningfully engaged in the content and are experiencing growth as individuals and as a cohort.

Ensure curriculum and instruction meet the needs of a diverse population of learners, is aligned with Common Core State Standards, and meets contractual expectations and benchmarks

Assist staff with or directly facilitate the planning and implementation of engaging, standards-aligned units, lessons, and projects (as needed)

Demonstrate an understanding and practice of the principles of positive youth development

Observes and provides feedback to Activity Specialists as assigned

Maintains an observation/feedback log documenting support provided, as assigned

Ensures activity lesson plans and projects are age-appropriate and have clear learning objectives

Documents participant engagement and projects through multimedia

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education; teaching credentials a plus

Minimum of three (3) years of classroom teaching experience (elementary or middle school)

Knowledge of NYS Common Core Standards and experience in curriculum development

Exceptional coaching and problem-solving skills

As a condition of continued employment must be cleared by regulating agencies; New York State Clearance Review Background Check.
