Primary Function: Responsible for providing professional housing counseling services and assistance in home ownership, foreclosure prevention, rental housing, and financial coaching.

Counselor must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, a working knowledge of financial capability, credit, budgeting, asset building and the ability to analyze credit reports. Must work independently, manage time efficiently. Work may occur both in-office and remotely.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one counseling to clients in areas such as home ownership (pre-purchase and foreclosure prevention), rental housing, and financial coaching.

Evaluate homeowners’ eligibility for loss mitigation options; prepare mortgage relief applications.

Follow up with lenders, courts, attorneys, and other stakeholders to resolve foreclosure cases.

Conduct workshops, seminars, and one-on-one coaching (virtual or in-person, including evenings).

Maintain accurate client files, program records, and data integrity in required client management systems (e.g., Counselor Max).

Stay informed on housing regulations and maintain HUD certification through continuing education (minimum 30 hours every three years).

Facilitate housing fairs and seminars on-site and off-site as part of outreach efforts.

Prepare and submit timely and accurate reports for internal and external audits, funding sources, and contract reviews.

Knowledge and Skills:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred but not required. Candidates with 2 to 4 years of equivalent training and experience in housing counseling, foreclosure prevention, or related fields encouraged to apply.

HUD Housing Counseling Certification is required (must be obtained within three months of hire if not already certified). Additional certifications in foreclosure prevention, home ownership counseling, financial capability, and rental housing counseling preferred.

Familiarity with foreclosure regulations/resources and housing policies at local, state, and federal levels, including Fair Housing.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database software.

Ability to independently work in a fast-paced environment with high level of accountability, integrity, and confidentiality, strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
