Our school provides tailored foundational skills in literacy, mathematics, and character development that will equip all of our students for academic and personal success throughout their educational careers and beyond.Job SummaryASpecial Education Teacherwith Primary Hall plays a crucial role in the education system, working with students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. The primary goal is to provide specialized instruction and support to help these students overcome challenges and reach their educational potential, using differentiated methods of instruction that are aligned with requirements including accommodations and modifications of student's Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or Section 504 plans. The role requires a combination of teaching skills, empathy, and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities. Additionally, the ability to integrate technology into instruction and a commitment to fostering a love of learning are often valued traits for elementary teachers. You are charged with ensuring that each Primary Hall student is educated in a rigorous and joyful learning environment. Essential Job Functions

Creates a calm, rigorous, and engaging classroom environment.

Works collaboratively with the Student Supports Coordinator and general education teachers to implement all aspects of student IEPs tailored to each student's unique needs and abilities.

Create lesson plans that accommodate diverse learning styles and address specific disabilities.

Uses data to drive instruction by regularly analyzing data, studying student work, and implementing the highest leverage instructional strategies to maximize student achievement.

Consistently monitors student achievement through formal and informal assessment and uses results to plan for instruction.

Upholds a values-based approach to maintain a positive culture among students and staff.

Create and foster a positive, safe learning environment by supervising students during class and other activities to ensure their safety and well-being.

Implement behavior management techniques to address behavioral challenges and promote a supportive atmosphere.

Collaborate with other teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure a consistent approach to behavior management.

Regularly update and adjust IEP goals based on assessment results.

Provide one-on-one instruction, small group activities, and other accommodations as necessary.

Provide regular feedback to students, parents, and other team members regarding individual progress.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records as required by laws and district policies of student progress, assessments, and communication with parents and other professionals.

Foster a positive and supportive classroom culture that promotes social and emotional development.

Stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in special education.

Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills and stay updated on relevant laws and regulations.

Must be willing to work outside of traditional office hours if necessary or required as the role requires some attendance at school events outside of business hours.

Uphold a high level of professionalism in all interactions with students, staff, and parents.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

Minimum requirement of a bachelor's degree at the time of employment (minimum average GPA of 2.75)

New York State teaching certification or licensure.

2 years teaching in an urban public school (traditional or charter)preferred but not required.

Previous experience in elementary education is advantageous.

Knowledge of age-appropriate teaching methods and curriculum development.

Able to internalize and apply feedback with immediacy, dedication to effectiveness and excellence

Patience, flexibility, and a passion for working with young children.

Positive attitude.

Flexibility and willingness to take initiative.

Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create an inclusive learning environment.

Working Conditions Classroom and Office setting, the noise level in the work environment(s) is relatively quiet.Cognitive and Physical Demands

Daily/consistent: Standing, sitting, computer work, screen time, keyboarding, typing, wrist flexing/extension and other repetitive movements and lifting (up to 20 pounds).

Daily/consistent: Use of professional judgement in alignment with Primary Hall values and policies, ability to communicate effectively verbally and written, and to complete projects with minimal assistance and supervision.
