Essential Duties of a Lead Oncology RN:

The primary purpose of this position is to: Perform all functions of an RN while acting as a lead in the department to ensure that the nurse training is delivered in a standard, efficient manner and reinforces General Physician, PC policies and procedures. This position will delegate tasks, oversee clinical staff, and train new hires.

Act as the point person for all clinical questions that arise from the department Medical Assistants, LPN’s, RN’s as well as the administrative support staff.

Function regularly as part of the clinical nursing team

Develop, oversee, and administer the training for department RN’s, including new hire training as well as continuing education for existing staff.

Participate in the interview and hiring process of nursing candidates, working directly with the Practice Manager to identify the right candidates for open positions.

Responsible for validating clinical staff competencies using the skills checklist upon hire and annually thereafter, providing feedback to the Practice Manager on clinical issues.

Work with Practice Manager in assessment of existing and the creation of new policies and procedures for the department and assist with the communication and implementation of those policies and procedures as appropriate.

Establish and develop strong working relationships and communication between the physicians, the clinical staff, and the Operations Management team.

Educate the new and existing nursing staff on the standard of care within the GPPC and provide guidance to ensure all nursing staff can work cross functionally.

Deliver exemplary customer service to provide a positive patient experience across the organization.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications of a Lead RN:

Valid NYS RN License

3-5 years’ experience in nursing required

Strong clinical knowledge

Ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally both internally and externally

Excellent time management skills and a high standard of integrity to provide exemplary patient care. Must be a team player and be able to work with others to achieve overall group objectives.
