No County Kings Street Address Office of Financial Services/ Office of Security One Pierrepoint Plaza, 5th floor, 300 Cadman Plaza West City Brooklyn State NY Zip Code 11201 Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:You must have a New York State Security Guard Registration Number or current Security Guard Photo ID issued by the New York State Department of State (you MUST enter the Registration Number or ID Number on your application) AND:Either 1. six months of post-Security Guard Registration experience as a Security Guard;Or 2. six months of experience as a police officer or peace officer;Or 3. six months of active U.S. military service where you performed security duties on a United States military base or vessel and an honorable discharge or under conditions in the NYS Restoration of Honor Act. Security duties on a United States military base or vessel include working as military police or as security personnel performing foot and motorized patrol, control of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, flight line security, and crime prevention/physical security.55 B/C QUALIFICATIONS:Individuals certified eligible for the 55b/c program under the Governor’s Program to Hire Persons/Veterans with Disabilities pursuant to Section 55b/c of the Civil Service Law will also be considered. To be considered, you must meet the minimum qualifications and provide a copy of your letter of eligibility with your response. Candidates must meet the non-competitive minimum qualifications listed above.COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:CIVIL SERVICE LIST APPOINTMENT:Candidates must be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service eligible list. ORTRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS:Candidates must have one year permanent or 55 b/c service in a title designated as appropriate for transfer in accordance with Section 70.1 of the Civil Service law. Duties Description Duties of this position include but are not limited to: Opening and closing of the building Protecting occupants of buildings or offices from outside annoyances and interference by unauthorized persons Monitoring and maintaining security systems Conducting scheduled rounds to control access to buildings and restricted areas Preventing trespassing, loitering, theft and property damage Appearing as a witness against person(s) arrested Providing assistance to clients by directing them to appropriate locations Observing all parts of an assigned office Interviewing witnesses to incidents and taking written statements and preparing reports involving incidents or accidents Appointees may be required to cover special security hearings and work various shifts and unscheduled overtime when necessary Some travel required Additional Comments We offer a work-life balance and a generous benefits package, worth 65% of salary, including:Holiday & Paid Time Off Thirteen (13) paid holidays annually.
