Certified Substance Abuse Counselor

MUST HAVE LICENSE

A CSAC is a professional who is trained in substance use prevention, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. They help people overcome addiction by providing coping strategies and personalized recovery plans. They may also counsel family members of people with substance abuse issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Implements alcohol and drug abuse education, and provideresources for continued treatment in the community

Conducts substance abuse orientation, awareness, education,and prevention programs

Organizes and coordinates with other agencies promotingsubstance abuse awareness

Maintains HIPAA and Client confidentiality at all times

Communicates to staff any inappropriate or suspectedinappropriate client behavior

May conduct breath analysis and urinalysis collection anddocumentation

Understands and follows incident/accident reporting policiesand procedures

Responds to client emergency medical needs, whenappropriate/required

Monitors and communicates the activities of the clients,including activity in the parking lot and smoking areas

Attends treatment groups and other client and staff meetingsas directed by Counselors, Lead Techs or Program Coordinator

Maintains a clean and safe environment which may includegeneral cleaning duties, contraband searches, safety rounding and room checks

Updates electronic health records in a consistent, efficientmanner per protocol

Communicates with families, referral sources, and outsidehealthcare providers in a professional manner

Administers medications in accordance with policy andnursing staff instructions

Assists on-duty counseling staff and performs other dutiesas assigned or required

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent required

Previous experience in an addiction treatment facility orexperience working in the substance use disorder and/or mental health fieldpreferred

Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice

Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicable

Current CPR if applicable

TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)

Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site

Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements

Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and fromappropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required

Computer proficiency required

Must be at least 18 years of age
