Elmira is not a "food mecca".(yet!) but Rye is doing it's best to put it on the map!
We need help
cooks who are passionate about food and love what they do (even though it's hard!),
who are able to work in a team and take pride in their work of pleasing guests with their art,
and who show up to workon time and ready to gowithout a lot of excuses,
We have a "campus" in the middle of Elmira which now includes our fine dining room (upscale pub, really), a garden patio that was built out last year, and across that patio from the main restaurant we have just opened a more casual venue called "the Garage at Rye." The Garage is currently serving Fortyweight coffee drinks along with house made pastries and a few egg sandwiches; it also produces the desserts for Rye. We are developing a 'grab and go' lunch menu and will be ultimately doing pizza in our wood fired pizza oven!
What we lack is qualified kitchen help. When I lived in San Francisco, the industry was drowning in people who LOVED food and loved producing it. Elmira hasn't historically been a food town so I'm reaching out to nearby communities in hopes of finding similarly minded people.
The multiple kitchens means that we have need for morning, afternoon, and dinner cooks
Compensation: it's going to be based on your experience but I'm motivated to make Rye work. We've been at it for over four years now and the ongoing struggle is real! Our starting pay for little experience is $20/hour so if you're coming at me with the passion and dedication mentioned above, then you can ask for more.
Travel expenses: willing to split your commute to and from Ithaca (until you discover how cheap it is to live in Elmira and want to move here to BUY a house!)
Signing bonus: $500 bonus for qualified candidates who sticks around for six months
We are short three cooks now and are highly motivated to find the RIGHT people to join our team. We do have an executive chef who has been holding it together but in order to keep him strong we need to beef up his support.
