POSITION TITLE: Road Mechanic
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic performs various heavy equipment repairs and routine maintenance at our shop in Glenmont, NY and at project sites. The mechanic is responsible for performing a variety of skilled mechanical tasks involving minor and major mechanical service of light, medium, and heavy equipment, trailers, dump trucks, cranes, bridge deck finishing machine and other power-driven equipment.

The Foreman reports directly to the Shop Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ensure that preventative maintenance programs for individual pieces of equipment are adhered to.
Perform all necessary repairs to keep our fleet in safe working condition.
Represent H&B in a professional manor.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Respond to service calls of job-site diesel and gasoline equipment such as excavators, loaders, loaders, cranes, air compressors, and other support equipment.
Understand and follow technical manuals, lube orders, wiring and hydraulic schematics to ensure proper diagnosis and repair.
Monitor telematics software and update preventative maintenance logs.
Perform major repair jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts, removing components, removal and installation of assemblies and installation of components.
Maintain tools and keep work area clean
Must be willing to assist crews when necessary
Assist with maintenance and cleanliness of equipment and vehicles when necessary
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 5 years of experience to perform various heavy equipment repairs and routine maintenance.
Valid Driver’s license – CDL is a plus
Vocational or Technical School Certification preferred but not required.

The Mechanic is regularly required to:
Walk, climb stairs, sit, and stand.
Talk and hear at normal levels.
See with close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and can adjust focus.
Reach with hands and arms.
Use hands a fingers to operate tools.
Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Base Rate varies based on experience - $35-$45/hr. Overtime paid at 1.5 times, when required.
